Ok, this past Sunday June 23rd, 2013 I was able to go see The Kings of the Mic Tour. De La Soul, Public Enemy, Ice Cube, and LL Cool J ft. Z-Trip. I was seated 2 rows in front of the House mixers, so the sound was tight as hell and dead center. Great view, although I would have rather been up front of course. The crowd was 50/50ish race wise so that was really cool also. All ages as well!

Here's my review:

The show basically started on time at 6 p.m. with Maceo (De La) coming onstage to introduce a surprise (to me) warm up DJ. Chuck Chillout! I was excited to see such a legend do what he does. He played for about a half hour-40mins in true NY fashion, playing about 30-40 secs of a song, Hyping up the crowd, then slamming in another well known old school or Golden Era track. He got the mixed race and age crowd going pretty good. I was happy.

Next up was De La Soul.
They performed very well and I was kinda surprised how hype they got the crowd who were mainly there for Ice Cube.PE, and LL. I was screaming out the words to 'Stakes is High", and Grind Date, which they performed for 20 sec, then stopped to hype up the crowd and get us bouncing. Then started it again and killed it. I was in Heaven. They played their most well known hits like "My Buddy "and ended with "Me, Myself and I".

Public Enemy tore shit up next. They started out with "911 is a Joke". Flavor Flav wasn't wearing his clock! But he pulled it out durring "Don't Believe The Hype". Near the end of their performance, Flav hopped on the bass and ripped it. Then, he hopped on the drums and got down too. Chuck kept on saying that Flav was more than a T.V. show, haha. BTW, Davy DMX was there playing bass for PE. Good Set.

Ice Cube Came with another surprise for the night. As the inflatable "W" hands inflated, WC came out and started introducing Ice Cube. Man, Ice Cube and WC tore shit UP! I was so hype, so was the rest of everybody. He did all the classics, plus a couple Westside Connection songs with WC. I can't describe Ice Cubes energy. Oh yeah, the 50+ couple next to us passed us the blunt they busted out also, I got two good hits and was high as hell!

Last for the night was Z-Trip & LL Cool J. Z-Trip came out first and did a warm up set. From the "who's he?", "he better be good" comments I could hear around me, I could tell that a lot of people were unfamiliar with him. He started his warm up with some old funk & soul records and warmed up the skeptical crowd with "Just A Friend", then played classic bangers until he introduced LL. LL was pretty dope and went back and forth between classic battle rap, to his love songs. The energy durring LL was a little lack luster because of all the classic love jams, but he tore it up anyway and brought the energy up when he did classic battle shit.. Toward the end of his performance he called a bunch of girls onstage to dance, which was pretty cool, but it was a little staged. He called "crews" up from the crowd who were up on stage 20 seconds later lol.

The highlights of LL & Z-Trip were: A song where Z-Trip cut the hook, a sample of a girl in the fashion of "Stay Fly" by 3-6 Mafia. I didn't recognize the song at all, but Z-Trip tore that shit up like no other. I watched another couple videos on Youtube from other concerts, and couldn't fing that specific song performance. It was dope!

Chuck D came out in the middle and performed a new song with LL called "Trouble On My Mind" that was pretty cool too.

The last song was Rock The Bells, and Z-Trip killed the cuts, it was amazing.

All and all, It was a GREAT and memerable concert, I'm really glad I was able to go. The beer was only $3.50, I stayed at the casino that the concert was at, had great sex the next morning, and got to enjoy a day off from work also.
Unfortunately, my phone died right before LL came out, so all I got was a pic of Z-Trip:

Great review. Sounds like a good show and you had me chuckling at a few of those comments. Good to see the OG's still doing it.
