rchecka - Modern Funk Selections (File Under Modern Funk, Funky Soul, Funky Psych, or Just Plain Fonky Music)

For years I avoided buying new funk 45s and reissues to collect OG funk. I was wrong to do that. I was pigeonholing myself out of some quality music by being an OG Funk 45 snob. Eventually I realized that modern funk and soul are alive and well right now. This one is all about, not the rare, but the QUALITY fairly slept on new funk that is readily available for modern crate diggers.

In a nutshell:
Everything on this comp is funky. It's either new funk, recently rediscovered and than reissued, or undiscovered joints issued for the first time. I busted this entire mix out this weekend and I am surprised how easily it mixed and how nice it turned out. This is the same caliber of funk as the OG 45s I collected for Dumpster Funk 2, only unlike the old stuff, these are all available for sale and you should be tracking this stuff down. Basically, this mix will make you shake your sweaty, overheated summertime ass like you never shook it before. I am very proud to introduce you to this new breed of funky young musicians that you should not sleep on!

Support these bands and pick up their records if you like what you hear on this mix!

(THIS MIX IS FOR PROMOTIONAL PURPOSES ONLY. YES, SERIOUSLY.)

^No man, thank you for dropping #5 on me...

That 45 is a proper remake of a classic old school break. I had to put that on there, CSC is on point.

A few more records used on the comp...

Chocolate Watch Band

Koudede

Brownout (best track on the mix!)

Guest Villains, Tex Soul and the Bayonettes, and Hayvanlar Alemi

Heads up, that hayvanlar alemi is currently available (not for long) HERE at Dusty Groove. These guys are top notch guitarists, the B side is erie jazzy guitar.

Thanks again for this. I've got tabs open with Kept Records and G.E.D. Soul Records now. That Brownout track is killer so both those 7's will be no-brainers. On the G.E.D. tip it looks like I'll grab a couple of the Derobert slices.
