Platter won't turn once the belt is put on
July 04, 2017 10:35PM
Hi All--

Recently I was gifted a Technics FG SERVO ATS SL-BD22. It is belt driven and the belt it came with was loose, therefore I purchased a new belt and needle. Once I put the belt on the platter would not spin, unless I spinned it manually. Even then, the platter would eventually come to a stop.

I am not sure where to go from here. When I do take the belt off and move the stylus arm, the spindle does move just fine. I am considering maybe the new belt is too tight? Thoughts? Thanks!!

***Update: Since the spindle was spinning on its own, I tugged on the new belt to stretch it out a little. It turns out the belt was a bit tight. When i put it on, the platter begin to spin. SOLVED. smiling smiley

^Glad you got it solved, yes tight belts will definitely do that.

You want them tight at first but often with older rubber it can harden in time so if the belt is old even if it was sealed in a bag they can shrink and become brittle.
