Because I'm from a Caribbean neighborhood,I also have a profound love for soca/calypso,and reggae ..I had no choice. Also I mentioned ,my love of salsa ,but I also enjoy Bachata and some merengue...a lot of the newer Spanish music is like fusions of different music .Bachata is sounding more and more like r&b everyday. I also love the greats like The Eagles,Bowie,Billy Joel ...this stuff was just played in my house growing up...Good music is good music period. My parents had an appreciation for all types of music as well as an acceptance of people's differences whether ,it was race class or culture..which I am glad I inherited.

It's great to hear that people are out there with great expanded horizons.
The love of music links us all in many ways.
I totally agree with you in stating that even though things might be in different languages,
Some styles sound virtually the same as others.
North of Brazil they have Sertanejo music in which i equivilated it to our Country music.
and their Forro music sounded like original Dominican merengue
when it had the accordian complements instead of the Brass section.

Yes, much of today's cultural music has seemed to morphed into combinations of music
and it gets generalized into one category (Popular).I never liked this aspect, because each style is
important and has it's own unique sound and quality.

Well, I'm not sure how my taste in music combines with my bloodline but here are the facts...
I'm polish on my mothers side and pakistani on my fathers side, born and raised in sweden and growing up all of my friends were iranian. I guess growing up I learned which music NOT to listen to so I had to find something different. Other than that I can't find any cultural reason for me to listen to the music I enjoy today, which is mainly hip hop/soul/funk/reggae.
