Don't get me wrong, if I had been given that set as a gift, I'd give a couple of careful listens to each LP. That's cool that they are breaking it up into categories. From the looks of it, some of these albums are quite rare and have never been reissued on any format outside of this program. Definitely look forward to seeing your thoughts on the rest of the set.

I'm not a record club subscription guy at all either. That said this would definitely be an exception to that basic rule of thumb I have. I have probably 30 or so Numero records and ALL of them are not only high quality pressings but all of them are also "othewise unavailable" rarity type records. This label is one of my favorite Chicago labels of all time.

I watched a DVD documentary on how they make these records, it's really a cool thing to watch. I can't recall the name of it but I'll look it up when I get home.

Anyways, the documentary shows the owner of the label knocking on the door of a now elderly man who dropped a record that never made it past the test pressing. This guy could have acted any number of ways seeing a man on his doorstep willing to pay him for the rights to produce a record the man recorded and forgot about years ago but he opens his doors to him and talks to him. It's interesting how he has to track these people down to get them to sign off on their old forgotten music. That's the mentality of this company, everything is by the books, pay the artist is the first priority, press a good quality record with lots of documentation and high quality packaging comes next. For an underground music revivalist label they really are the best in the business IMHO.

So I'd definitely be down for a subscription to this labels random record at my door. Same with Sub Pop records by the way, one of these days I'm going to be a Sub Pop Record of the Month subscriber.

Fuck Vinyl Me Please (and fuck Feedbands.) Those clubs are the exact opposite of crate digging. That's nothing more than newbs opting out of the trouble of thinking for themselves because don't worry, Pitchfork presents a colored vinyls will show up at your door. It's got EXCLUSIVE* records! Any company who decides they reserve the right to use the word vinyl as a verb in their name is bound to be a telltale mark of "vinyl enthusiasts" clones.

*an exclusive color variant of an always cheaper, better sounding, easy to find record.
