^Nice ones. I got a hole in my jazz collection, NO Ornette Coleman at all.. Those good ones to start with? I know he's a quintessential free jazz musician, but I don't know which ones to cop.

rchecka, I can't speak much on Ornette Coleman at all as this is the first of his I got. It's a definitely a nice album and the gatefold package is great. Will have to do some research and look out for the essentials.

The albums on the left there are a couple favorites from a recent dig. A local store was moving and all music was 50%.

Robert Glasper is a (newer jack) jazz cat that I've been checkin' for over the past 7 years or so...Piano player. I'm not sure about how I feel about his new album (Black Radio)....

...but everything else he's put out is straight...class...

...especially his, 'In My Element' album - (circa 2007).

peace.

Heads up...

My wife and I were lucky enough to see "Nachito" Herrera in a very intimate venue on our anniversary this weekend at Dakota Jazz Club downtown Minneapolis...

^This is a taste of how incredible they were. The drummer was drumming at 4/4, then switched to third measures, then he started air drumming while he was supposed to have a subdued part. He was switching beats up from Latin jazz to Hip Hop to disco, and constantly rotating the beat. Nachito, the head of this quartet was playing cowbell on his left hand and piano on his right at a different speed! Then he'd put down his drumstick and play synthesizer on his left hand and piano on his right hand. The bass player was straight up funk plucking the whole time. No fluff, one of the best jazz shows I have ever seen so I felt obligated to drop some words about them. I recommend seeing them live if you can or cop their releases if you can't because they take this shit very seriously.
