My latest scores

Ray Barretto - Acid lp

The Meters - Fire On The Bayou
This was a small score , but every bit as good as any other stack I've picked up recently . The Barretto joint is a great combination of soul , funk , and jazz with my favorite kind of Latin flavor . As for the Meters joint ... the band name alone speaks for itself . Everything I've copped so far by the Meters is pure fire !!! I'm just scratching my head as to why it took me so long to cop this. So funky and soulful...

Recently I bought and bumped these...

Smashing Pumpkins - Oceania LP (Martha's Music) 2012

^I saw Smashing Pumpkins interviewed on Guitar center live and as usual the interview and live music they performed captivated me. This is the "new" incarnation of the Smashing Pumpkins as Billy Corgan, the singer, is the only original band member left. The band is quite young (in comparison to Billy) and full of the life-energy Corgan needs to keep the name alive. The sound of this reminds me of early pumpkins albums Gish and Siamese Dream in a way. Billy is still very dark and introverted in his lyrics and yet has a hint of optimism he never had in earlier albums. Over all, this is a good album, but it's good despite Billy's vile whiny voice. The musicians brought the old SP power back that was completely absent in the previous 2 albums, yet it is his voice, while it has never been very good, that got more whiny and irritating with age. His voice worked on Siamese Dream because it was not louder than the other band members, it complimented it nicely, but on this album, his voice seems to overpower the other musicians. Almost like he's letting you know he's still in charge. I would recommend this to any hardcore Pumpkins fan because it is a return to form in a way to those seeking for the next Siamese Dream, but I would never recommend this album to a casual rock fan, or Pumpkins newbs. They should really start with Gish and Siamese Dream if they know nothing and bipass this "old rocker still kicking it" album.

Black Sabbath - 13 LP (Vertigo Records) 2013

^Speaking of "old rockers still kicking it" this is definitely that. Ozzy returns to his old late 70s Black Sabbath sound in a way. Not quite as hard, but still signature Sabbath, complete with the nice unpredictable tempo changes. Ozzy is really grown up sounding (wise) in a lot of ways on this. This is grown man rock. Talking about how he doesn't wanna die but he doesn't wanna live forever either. Singing about how he has regrets and has been there done that and has accepted his reality. A lot of this passes as straight up rock and roll whereas some of it is clearly harder rock. Really this is a great album, not as good as the early heavier, darker, classics but much better than I expected and solid all the way through. If I was going to give Smashing Pumpkin's latest album a rank, it'd be 7/10, and I'd give this an even more solid 8/10. Thanks to Uptown for the recommendation.

Megadeth - Countdown To Extinction LP (Capitol/Mobile Fidelity Recordings) 2007 L.E Remaster (OG released 1992)

^FINALLY!!!

You guys have NO idea how excited I was to find this online on Tuesday, and have it on my turntable by yesterday. I have been looking for this for YEARS and YEARS. Every time I found this it was either sold out or WAY too expensive. The cheapest I have ever seen this album was 80 dollars, but I found a store selling it out of Chicago for a mere 40 bucks. That is CHEAP for double 180 gram remastered hard as hell to find Original Master Recordings quality Mobile Fidelity grade album. When I was in high school I adored this album. I smoked my first joint to this album. I played the HELL out of the tape, then I played out the CD, now 20 years later I get it on the best sounding medium yet. This sounds flawless. I could start spouting off reasons why I love this album so much or spit lyrics in 2 seconds flat, but the truth of the matter is, I'd never do it justice. I'll drop this accolade: Ranked #53 in Martin Popoff’s The Top 500 Heavy Metal Albums of All Time! And I'll show you the IMGUR photo album I just did for it, and even that doesn't do it justice. It's such great rock and roll, and IMO it should be in every rock head's collection.

Yo got it mane! I figured with a (Ozzy-era) Sabbath-head like you...there should be no reason that you shouldn't get it.

I'm still debating on whether i'm going to shell out the$200+ to see them in two weeks, when they come into town.. I could get cheaper seats, but way the f*ck back in "no man's land".

a couple of questions for you R...:

- Did you miss hearing Bill Ward on drums? or, did Brad Wilk make you forget that Bill wasn't even involved on this album?

- Did Rick Rubin's productional stamp make any difference in what you were expecting (with the sound on this album)? OR, did it sound like any other (pre-Ronnie James Dio) Sabbath album (in a good way, of course)?

Too bad that album didn't have the bomustrack, 'Naetivite' in Black'.

I heard Megadeth's new album (Super Collider) is a stinker.....is this true? I'm afraid the only Megadeath song I have (in my iPod) is from this album...'Symphony of Destruction'Imighthave to getthe whole ablum.

They had Dave Mustane on 'That Metal Show', (on VH1 Classics) last epidode, on Saturday.

peace.

I saw Black Sabbath w/ Ozzy way back in 94 I think it was at Ozzfest 1. It was one of the best concerts I have ever seen, Ozzy and BS put on an amazing show. I remember that concert vividly even though I shouldn't remember it. Yah mon

Brad did Bill's job really well I thought. I thought the drums on this album is what made this album so cool. He really mastered the slow hard drums which is difficult to get right.

Rock drummers always wanna drum fast like this guy..

I thought it was very true to the old sound I don't know if that's Rubins stamp or not but if that woulda been dropped in the 70s it would not have been out of place. Well, maybe it would since it's pretty mellow for Sabbath, but sound wise it was throw back Sabbath all the way.

Yeah, it'd be cool to see Ozzy drop that bonus track on a 7" for all the vinyl heads that bought the album, that'd be something I'd buy in 2 seconds.

I don't have that album, can't comment on it. I'll admit, I'm a little behind on some of his newer albums, but the last great album he did I think was Cryptic Writings in 1997, I am still looking for that on wax.

P, you absolutely should get this album, it is an amazing album, every song rocks. Rock On If you had it, I'm guessing you would play it to death. I always thought that this was Megadeth's answer to Metallica's Black Album in both terms of when it was released and how solid it was all the way through. IMO, this is better than Metallica's Black album (self titled album) actually by a lot.

I was posting this last night , and sat my phone down . When I got back , the whole thing was gone , so here goes ... again .

Numero 003 Eccentric Soul : The Bandit Label 3lp . I have been waiting a long time for this one !! It is a 2lp compilation of bands on this label , an awesome book about the label and the artists , and my favorite part . A quality repress of The Majestic Arrows - The Magic of .. lp . I have wanted this record for a very long time , but couldn't bring myself to pay the 200+ price tag I kept seeing on original copies . I also can't find a track that I don't like on the comp . Numero hit a homerun with this one .

Kenny Cox - Clap Clap ! The Joyful Noise 2lp . This is a great album . There has already been a few words on here about this , so I will just say , don't sleep on this and thanks for the heads up on this one Rchecka .
Diamond And The Psychotic Neurotics - Stunts Blunts & Hip Hop 2lp . This is another one that I have waited for . I always wanted an OG copy of this , but it too was very hard to find , and out of my price range if I saw it . Nice lyrics and great production on this joint . Gets voted a classic by me ...
Iron Leg : The Complete Mickey And The Soul Generation 3 lp . This is SO FUNKY !! This was originally released by Dj Shadow . Numero has gone back and added a previously unreleased track , and updated liner notes ( by Dj Shadow ) . I highly recommend this to any funk heads .
The Rough Guide To Latin Psychedelia lp . I'm not really up on Latin Psych , but this is a Great album and is gonna be good motivation to dive deeper into it .

Ambergris - Self Titled lp . I was in an antique store and I found some records to dig through . Most of them were pretty common . Nothing was really standing out to me until I saw that big rooster head !!not to Mention that there was a big pink post it that said " 70s Latin Funk ". I think it was $6.99 , so I though it would be worth it to give it a shot . I'm glad I did !! This is a great funk album . Lucky Buy for me .

Now for the 45s , I went out last Friday night to the G.E.D. Soul review. This was a free showcase of 3 bands on the G.E.D Soul label . The bands were The Magic In Threes , DeRobert And The Half-Truths , and A.J. & The Jiggawatts . This was an amazing show !! This label is on point . Modern funk and soul at it's best. I picked up some of their 45s that I didn't have yet .
DeRobert And The Half-Truths - Sucker Punch / Too Busy / Cop Cars And Taxis 45
The Grips - Tennessee Strut / Fancy Roll 45
DeRobert And The Half -Truths - I Got Burned / Nashville Country Bump
Sky Hi - Reality Check ep
DeRobert And The Half-Truths - Beg Me ep
Both of the eps play at 33 1/3.
