I have just a few Library Records, I am lacking in quantity seriously, but I gotta add on to this thread...
In my "Sounds" crate...
The Official Adventures of Aquaman LP (Leo the Lion) 1967
^Ok, not a library record but I couldn't resist showing it since it's the first record in my "Sounds" crate. It's got great sounds and voices, and besides, It's fucking Aquaman dude... so why wouldn't I?
Orlando Kimber / John Keliehor – East Meets West LP (Bruton Music) 1984
^Kinda cool, very minimal. In this the
ruan is the primary instrument along with other traditional Asian instruments along with a few sparce synths. It sounds like something that East Flatbush Project would have taken for "Tried By 12" but, unfortunately, it's not
this sample.
Space Art – Trip In The Center Head LP (If Records) 1977
^This is ok. It's pretty common and not a whole lot here is worthy of sampling. The Orb did it already sparingly with their 60 minute song "Blue Room" and all of it's shortened versions.
Various - Cuts For Commercials LP (Music DeWolf)
^I'm a sucker for old commercial samples. That's made clear with the next few records shown...
Barry Gray - Stand By for Adverts (Trunk Records) 2011 RE of ? OG
^This recent reissue
(I believe it's a reissue) has some funky moments...
Bosworth Ensembles - Music Used in Many Popular Television Commercials LP (Folkways Records) 1974
^Ehh...
Kinda disappointing.
Muller Jordan Herrick Inc. - U.S. News & World Report Presents: The Other Eye LP (US News and World Report) Unknown Year
^News related music, quite cool actually, especially the first track. If only my local news intro sounded that good.
Jose Jimenez The Astronaut - The First Man In Space LP (Kapp Records) 1961
^This one and the next is not technically a Library record but it's got so many scratchables and funny voiced samples. I don't know if shit like this would ever fly nowadays, it's basically a white comedian making fun of the Mexican born fictitious Astronaut that he created with an over-the-top accent. Hey, it's from a different time, clearly.
J. Garland McKee - Southern Negro Humor in Dialect (Laughin' With 'Em) LP (Americana Recordings) 1969
^Speaking of "a different time", WTF!
Another non-library record but it's loaded with potential samples. This is basically a white dude from the South who according to the sleeve notes...
Quote
"Born and reared in the heart of the Mississippi Delta in Greenville, Mississippi, Mr. McKee has been closely acquainted with many negro people since early childhood."
So it's one of those "I know lots of black people" so I can do this. How do I put this... he basically mocks their Southern Dialect by mimicking it and creating stereotypical characters in fictitious scenarios. Or as the liner notes put it...
Quote
"Possessing a warm, merry heart and a genuine sense of humor himself, J. Garland McKee has long been most appreciative for the contribution the southern negro had made to his own life with their delightful, natural humor."
This is some ancient-thought humor right here. Dude is a living relic
(supposedly still alive) and nothing like this so called humor would even come close to flying today. As far as Americana I suppose it's arguably that, definitely historical in a way since it's so ass-backwards. Keep in mind it's from back in a day when in the South, black people were "them" ('em) and white people were "Us", and this guy was basically the "comfortable filter" between "white life" and the life of the Southern black man.
Honestly, I don't know where I could ever use any of these "samples" respectively (or respectably) in a way that would ever work, but being one of the oddest records I own, I'm still glad to have it as a piece of history.
BTW: You can here some of the vocal bits (near the bottom) on this on
this website if you are curious. Frankly, my words on this don't describe it adequately. You gotta hear it for yourself to get the jist.
And on that note....
I have a few more far less controversial library records floating around, I'll add on as I find them.
