Dolly Mixture - Everything and More 3xCD Boxset

What we have here is basically the blueprint for a lot of female-fronted indie-pop type groups that would come down the line. I'd also say few, if any groups have ever topped Dolly Mixture, though they remain fairly obscure.

This band was briefly known as "Captain Sensible's backing band" in some circles during the early 80s but they were so much more than that, and unfortunately never made it big. As such, their material has always been a bit tough to find, and this set is the most comprehensive way to get their material that I know of.

A few years back I got wind of this set and instantly pre-ordered it directly from the band. I believe it sold out very quickly and has not been repressed. Some larger indie ought to remedy that and also get this reissued on vinyl.

^One of the benefits of closely following a band and being ready to buy direct.

^Yeah, I rarely do preorders but this was one instance where I thought it was a good idea. I think the whole preorder thing is way overblown these days. I can understand why some really tiny labels need to do preorders before they can press a run of records or CDs, but I'm not a huge of fan of limited editions, special colored vinyl, etc. type preorders. A hidden consequence of all of it is that it ends up hurting smaller independent music retailers.

Crash Box & Peggio Punx - 2xCD Discography Sets - SOA Records (Italy)

Here are two of the more unique CDs in my collection. Both were purchased about 5-6 years ago IIRC. They are unique not because there is anything mindblowing about the packaging, but because they are both very exciting musically yet incredibly frustrating at the same time.

Both bands are fairly obscure 80s Italian Hardcore Punk. I won't bother describing the sound of either band in too much detail, but let's just say that neither band had access to top notch recording quality during their time. This is compounded by the fact that both comps. are mastered pretty much entirely from old vinyl, which muddies things further. If you've ever listened to a lot of 80s hardcore, this probably won't bother you too much.

The FRUSTRATING part is that the label used needledrops when the actual masters, or something close to them was presumably available. Both sets have since been redone by another label, which touts using higher quality sources this time around. I wouldn't be surprised if they sound much better (how could they not?), but I just haven't gotten around to buying yet (and probably won't for awhile).

At any rate, if you've filled out your collection old North American punk and hardcore, there is a treasure trove of stuff from other parts of the world waiting for you. A few years back I started buying up a lot of that stuff when I could, and there are still a ton of records and CDs I don't have.
