^^^ nice. When I ran into JS-1 over the summer in NYC I mentioned that I still listen to that album actually haha. Just posted this recently in the recent pick ups thread but I'm pulling it back out for another spin, really nice and crisp sampling on these beats. If you can still find a copy in stock (as opposed to from a discogs seller) I would jump on it, quick.by vamosarapiar - Crate Digging: Hip Hop
^^Don't sleep on that Kenny Cox record either, I'm trying to get into contact with DJ Amir for an interview at the moment. In either case, it seems like it sold out in a couple places, I added a discogs entry for the record last night and there's already someone trying to sell it for almost $50 which is nonsense but probably will be normal in a couple months. ^^ Two dope albums. The Kenny Cox is the first for DJ Amir's/Strata's new "reissue" label. Production quality on the whole thing is top-knotch. Listening to the Lewis Parker instrumentals right now and I'm glad I grabbed this in time, really really dope drums and his sampling is crisp as shit (some killer horns on here). I haven't heard a good Snoop verse in years anyways.by vamosarapiar - Crate Digging: Hip Hop
Some recent picks: ^^ Damu illness, a little bit redundant in the collection as I don't need the instrumentals but shiiit, Damu is one of the dopest. I actually just listened to the Giant 45 record tonight as well. ^^ find of the year so far on that Bobby Hutcherson record for me. Glad I copped this, what an ill record. I've been listening to some of these songs for awhile nowby vamosarapiar - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop

I just interviewed this guy MaG for HipHopDX, been listening to his project over the last couple days and there's some dopeness in there for sure IMO. Peep the interview and its a free download in there if you're interested. -by vamosarapiar - Crate Digging: Hip Hop
Alright, I'll de-lurk myself but I don't have much to add, I too think Jay got it pretty on point. As was kind of mentioned, I HATE hearing "this shit is classic!" a week after it dropped. IMO, in order to be classic it needs to settle in first, there's no way around that..."classic" is a term that NEEDS hindsight to be properly applied. I think they've got a legitimate point in their criticism. I studied Rastafarianism pretty seriously in college under a very well-versed professor and the depth of the religion/philosophy is something far too often overlooked. Bob Marley was a bullshit catch-all for Rastafarianism to millions of white teens in the US and UK who in turn minimized the culture to easy-going, weed-smoking hippyby vamosarapiar - Crate Digging: Hip Hop
Haha, great story rchecka. I gotta say, I don't think of Prince as all that overlooked. As rchecka's story about the movie shows, he's definitely a pop icon in the mainstream (though most obviously aren't digging into his discography to thoughtfully I would guess, myself included). Still BM31, I think you're right that he doesn't get mentioned along with other GOby vamosarapiar - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop

I'm streaming that new Toro Y Moi record "Anything In Return," some might scoff at this stuff (synth-pop type shit) but I think he's on point and smart as shit. Dope!by vamosarapiar - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Been sick as shit lately and missed a show this past weekend that I'd planned on going to with some friends. My man grabbed this for me unsolicited though:by vamosarapiar - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop

Just listened to this one again this evening while drinking some fine beer with a friend (Firestone Walker Double Jack ), has to be one of my most listened to records of 2012 and easily one of my favorite purchases of the year as well (grabbed this at Superfly Records in Paris in May, Superfly is the responsible party for this dope reissue as well): Not sure what this clip sounds like butby vamosarapiar - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop

Yeah that's a mixtape. Nice but doesn't touch Dr. Lecter IMO.by vamosarapiar - Crate Digging: Hip Hop
That Marco Polo was a letdown to me when it dropped after Port Authority as you mentioned, gotta revisit that album actually. Haven't fully peeped the Ace/Doom album, got several others before it in line for 2012 catch up and I remember not really feeling the snippets. Were some of the beats recycled/old? I'm still listening to this album heavy after seeing it on a year end lby vamosarapiar - Crate Digging: Hip Hop

Re: El-P: I really enjoyed it. Not sure its fair to compare to his Company Flow days as he's in a much different place and putting out much different music. Again, not much time since I'm with family right now so I just lifted this from a little blurb I wrote about the album: "Cancer 4 Cure bangs and rattles all the way through. Alright, this is admittedly copy and pasted from an email correspondence that I had with one of my editors but whatever: Lushlife - Plateau Vision (A little hometown bias here maybe but a really great album through and through, production is top-notch and I really like how much he's willing to experiment, not too many hip-hop albums with such prominent sleigh bell use in the lead track.by vamosarapiar - Crate Digging: Hip Hop
Quoterchecka Quoteisaac I still cannot watch my wife's SVU unit or whatever and see Ice-T as a cop. I mean...get that money Ice....I aint mad atcha, but I look at her and I say this dude.....this dude made "Body Count"....among many other anti-cop tracks. It blows my mind to see him on there. Quoteeiki How much sense does it make to lie to your fans 10 times a year? Precisely the amount that they profited off the reissues. Seriously though, I know what you're saying about that type of "scheming"---not particular to Shadow since I'm not a collector of his stuff, but similar things have happened to me in the past. Also, kind of related, I've noticed aby vamosarapiar - Crate Digging: Hip Hop
