Man, I loved riding the street bikes in the day, have not rode in ages though. They didn't have the power or the handling as the works of art that they got out there today.Back then we was only rockin Kawasaki's and small Honda's.Havemeyer Ave was where the warehouses were at and we used that strip to race because it was a mile or so with no lights until the Bruckner Blvd break.by BM31 - General Discussion
Haha! That's a good find there,Uptown That movie I thought was as obscure a movie as you can get,you see how young Jan was in this. The story is a little far fetched as to they would have sent him on his way on some type of Med Eval discharge or FTA or something, but I thought it was good theater to catch the flow of early USMC life in the day. Used to dig Airwolf, big time but have notby BM31 - General Discussion
Yes,indeed P. Also the name of the Jan Michael Vincent movie was called Tribes. Darren McGaven and Earl Holliman played the D.I.'s if I remember correctly. It was made I think back in 1970 or 71.I think I seen it on movie of the week back in 79 or something.by BM31 - General Discussion
I hear ya, Uptown..but it's a shame that when we paid at the door and added our donation back in the day we had no idea or care about the fire and safety issues until something bad happened.Alot of the clubs and venues that the old schoolers talk about were not fit for the amount of people they held, and some of the places were nothing more than holes in the ground.I am actually suprised thatby BM31 - General Discussion
Hip Hop is a genre in where something like classic is less definable to say Rock or R&B. I mean take R& B..you can rattle off atleast a hundred bonified classics.by BM31 - Crate Digging: Hip Hop
Yes,that was extremely sad Uptown, especially being that most of the party goers were very young. This was completely avoidable. But on the reals, P..I still have never got over the Puffy and Hev(R.I.P) party disaster way back.Another not properly organized venue where people just thought about the dollars instead of the safety.by BM31 - General Discussion
Yes P,I remember that one well ( Boys of Company C),but believe it or not it did not give as much favor as you would think. In terms of originality and close to my own experiences the boot camp part of Full Metal Jacket was spot on to the exact detail of the squadbay and surroundings. The early eighties was about the last times where the D.I. physically hit the recruits, they can't do it anymorby BM31 - General Discussion
we got you stuck off the realness..we be the infamous, you heard of us official Queensbridge murderers. Shook Ones Pt.2 is the definition of what a classic Hip Hop joint is. Made with exclusive use of an obscure Quincy Jones movie take,a hillbilly breakbeat and Herbie Hancock's Jessica all rolled into one.True realness.by BM31 - Crate Digging: Hip Hop
QuoteEyez ...."classic" means different things to different people in different parts of the world....nationally and internationally. Completely agree, also being that the fact that world of Hip Hop is universal, that renders the term classic subjective at best.Which by the way Eyez that was a great quote, once used by Theodore Bikel as Oliver Krangle in the classic Twilight Zone episby BM31 - Crate Digging: Hip Hop
1. I think classic has to stay as true to the definition as possible in any faction. To me,it has to have stood the test of time and be as fresh today as it was back then. 2. No, as with most things different terms mean different things to most people. 3. As to Hip Hop as we know it is zeroing in on 40 years old.Gosh, where did all the time go? I think it is suffice to say that a classic sby BM31 - Crate Digging: Hip Hop
pay up the "financial and moral support" they claim he committed, and issue a public apology. As always it is about money, folks. If it was about anything different, then the dollar sign would have nothing to do it. When you take a stand on anything,it is because the stand means a great deal to you or a particular cause. The relevance is a matter of the changing of the perceptionby BM31 - Crate Digging: Hip Hop
When I get the chance to watch tv it is mostly sports,So I havent checked out regular programing since they used that as a media term. But I will invest some time into something if other people deem it watchable from time to time.by BM31 - General Discussion
Ok,HipHopChiq this seems interesting, but those who are unfamiliar with the show can you give us a little read on what the show is and what is going on leading you to vent about this Lena, person. Did She do something racially insensitive?, or did they put a token brother on the show? I'd like to know what happened. Peace to you.by BM31 - General Discussion
He's not talked of very much, but PRINCE over the last 30 years was just as big as Stevie, Marvin,James, Micheal or anyone else. His fusion of R&B, Rock and Roll, and musicianship is unmatched by anyone and Purple Rain was Beatlesesque when in dropped.Yall, should have been there.by BM31 - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop

Dayum..not that many old-schoolers,huh? Bummer.. Ok,maybe we can amend this post to cover the people that came into their own during the Golden Era. So if you were a pre-teens or early teens and just getting into Hip Hop during the time of RUN DMC,etc Holla, and tell us about the things what makes you a Golden Era kid!by BM31 - General Discussion
Sorry RC, I have to just spectate and gather up the knowledge that you guys are dropping on this one. I'm not educated enough in this subject to give a honest accessment.by BM31 - Crate Digging: Hip Hop
What James was talking about in this record was that he had a new thing that he got down with. Your bag, sort to say was 70s terminology for what you was personally diggin, feel me? So for conversational sake, I'd like to know the top things that are in your bag. These are things that have your most interest, things you have followed most of your life, things that make you...you.Things thatby BM31 - General Discussion
I hear ya,RC..There is nothin' wrong with a little ventin every now and then.I get down on a little of that in my post also. With most of everyone here,I had a bunch of stuff going on during the holidays and now I'm trying to plan a trip to go see my wife's family again, but this time of year is pricey because it is summertime down there now and Carnival is coming soon so airfares goby BM31 - General Discussion
Hmm...as you probably know I haven't listened to alot of Hip Hop this year in particular, but a few caught my ear.Fill in the blanks,fam..I'm going from the head,so dates, specific songs, etc might elude me. 1.MASTER ACE - Ma Doom/Son of Yvonne There was a song on this CD called Nineteen seventy somethin'),I liked alot. 2.DJ Premier & Bumpy Knuckles - Kolexxxion Big fanby BM31 - Crate Digging: Hip Hop
QuoteUptownKid ...just as long as he doesn't (ultimately) try and funk with the second amendment and/or put bans on stuff, i'm cool with what he has to say. The Second Amendment will not be abolished, but congress is going to go all out for the assault weapons ban.No one has any problem with keeping and bearing arms for your personal protection, the protection of your family, residencby BM31 - General Discussion
I have the utmost respect for you RC also, my man Uptown and all of the contributers to your site, especially the people I remember from down the dial, cause we all been through it together. My comments were just a generalization. They were not for anyone or any quote in specifics. It was just in reference to Mel and people like him in his position to remember to atleast try to be above it,whenby BM31 - Crate Digging: Hip Hop
RC, my newsflash comment was for anybody and everybody that reads it to understand that just because you originated something, it does not give you complete ownership. The comment was to imply that the west coast, the south, the midwest,overseas,etc..ALL made significant contributions to the rap game and it should'nt go unrecognized just because of a persons taste in new,old school or whatevby BM31 - Crate Digging: Hip Hop
haha....He just did his own variations of the Roger Rabbit and The Running Man, with a little Kingston twist from Jamaica thrown in their also. People dismiss what he did..along with Hammer also, but when it first came out, everybody thought it was dope. And some still do..because it's carrying over 26 million views on youtube.by BM31 - General Discussion

Newsflash.....New York does not OWN Rap music. neither does ONE race own it or have exclusive dibs on it. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion about whatever, whatever.. I always say...just remember some of the stuff your grandma used to lay down to you about life. It works.by BM31 - Crate Digging: Hip Hop
Eminem is like the elephant in the room. For the same o'l ridiculous reasons we been debating over for 400 years. People still do not know what to make of him. I always say let the body of work have it's speak. There is no denying his lyrical mastery and there ain't too many rappers that i would put ahead of him on the so called G.O.A.T. list. But not to be outdone, peopleby BM31 - Crate Digging: Hip Hop
^^ well said...I gotta question right quick..was The real hip hop the bigger of the two hits for Das Efx or not Also under that vise does now Onyx Slam qualify along with House of Pain's Jump Around. As far as the flow of the times, did not these two hits do the same for ya? Or was it just the style at the time and none of these are Top twenty worthy?by BM31 - Crate Digging: Hip Hop
