Quoterchecka Appreciate that info, I never read the reviews. I don't know how serious I was about spending 125 bucks on a tape player, but I was happy to find one that fits inside a computer bay that takes up the same size as a DVD-RW drive. It used to be on Think Geek but it isn't any more so I have no doubt they kicked it out of their product line. I think what I'm going to doby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
No RSD for me. I blew through my budget for records for awhile and didn't see anything on the lists that I absolutely had to have. Plus I refuse to participate in all the RSD bullshit like waiting in line for hours, pushing and shoving through crowded shops or whatever, which is what it's become in any decent-sized metro area these days. Wow. I remember paying about $20 for the CD a few years back. Prices seemed to have dropped a little bit on that one and "IV Life" (CDs). I got into King Tee backwards many years later from listening to the Alkaholiks years before as a teenager. I should probably spend some more time with those King Tee albums... Yeah, the cover looked cool but I didn't have any idea about the music other than I knew it was some sort of Latin music from the 60s. I've listened to that one and another Fania LP out of the four and both are great. Proof that awesome records can be found anywhere. These were being given away in the community room of my apartment complex. Another Fania album. Played theseby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop

Quoterchecka ^I really want that Jah Life in Dub. I want it bad. It's good. All dubs of Barrington Levy tracks. Be aware that the Jah Life in Dub LP released in the 80s is a completely different album...an interesting back story to that one. The other Scientist album is basically the dub version to Flick Wilson's School Days LP.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop

Quotejaybrown Ska-talites and Buju Baton !! Not familiar with Isreal Vibration or Waterhouse .. Israel Vibration are roots harmony group - this album is their first, appears on a lot of best of reggae type lists. They are not my favorite reggae harmony group but I like them. The Waterhouse Revisted CD is a comp of mid-80s digi-dancehall stuff produced by Myrie and Marshall. Not mindblowinby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop

Quotejaybrown ^^ nice to see some more punk rock on here !! And you can't lose with Barrington Levy . Don't know Swervedriver . Punk and related types of music were basically the first music I really went nuts over as a young teenager. Still listen to a lot of it and like discovering older groups that are "new to me". Swervedriver were a UK band from the 90s shoegazer eraby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Quoterchecka Reggae is always one of those vast genres I can't get enough of no matter how hard I try to keep up. Shit's daunting. Agree. Thanks for linking the mixes, I'll have to listen to those soon.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Quoterchecka QuoteLionsMouth Rchecka, I hope you like that record. Let me know what you think. I thought it was pretty cool, not bad, but that's not my favorite kind of Reggae. I'm not complaining the price was right and that's a classic, so I got a good deal on a subgenre I don't have much of. What is your favorite type of reggae/JA music? Quotejaybrown This pressing is missing all the deep ,rich tones that I buy vinyl for . It took some serious level adjustment to get decent bass and mid tones . Really too bad. I'm guessing the problem lies somewhere in the mastering stage. AFAIK some extreme low and high end has to be cut for vinyl mastering due to the physical limitations of the format. If they went for with the bass,by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Hip Hop

That Ini Kamoze Mini-LP is a banger for sure. I've been listening to it a lot in the car and have played the LP a couple times. I'm not sure how long the current LP reissue will be around, so my advice would be to grab it now if you're thinking about it. Also, his follow up LP "Statement" is very good and a grower. Not quite as stark sounding as the s/t but it has thatby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
BTW, forgot to mention this - The Chronixx album I posted above is a Digipak CD, not a record. I got it on CD so I could listen to it in the car. It was obviously digitally recorded so I didn't see the point in getting the record.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop

Quotejaybrown Damn LionsMouth , you have been posting some great reggae lately !!! Thanks my reggae-related collection on vinyl isn't that big, but it's slowly growing. I have more on CD. Still, there is a ton of stuff I don't have at all. It's pretty addicting music IME.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop

Time to Build is a good track and I like the other singles too. I don't recall ever hearing any of the songs on the radio. Rap/R&B stations in Random City, USA, pretty much stuck to the most mainstream stuff possible at the time. Was never into any of the Murder Inc. artists, so I didn't pay much attention to the connection.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Hip Hop

Played the CD in the car the other day, not having listened to it in awhile. It does sound great. Unless multiple people can confirm that it blows the CD out of the water, I really don't think I need this. Too much stuff on the wantlist to be buying stuff I already own over and over again.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Hip Hop
