That album cover is awesome! and the record style reminds me of the Frisco Disco - Eastside Connection 12" (Disco Airlines). It started out alot like Steppenwolf's Magic Carpet Ride, then they went off into a little Zeppelin and ended in the style of Pink Floyd. Courageous, indeed.by BM31 - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop

In the last 20 years or so our generation has been extremely blessed to have witnessed innovations in technology unheard of many years ago. We were born through in some interesting times. But what do you miss?? In an effort of expanding your musical horizons, I just wanted to take a minute to tell you about one of my favorite artist of all time... Elis Regina. I first heard of her in elementary school from a classmate. She snuck me a 45 of this wonderful artist in her bookbag. In which I had traded back to her a Friends of Distinction 45 and a stick of my baseball card bubble gum, but needlessby BM31 - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
I'm gonna go you one better.HipHopChiq1.... Every person has a right to their own opinion. People fought and died for people to have that right. That said, people also have the right to DISAGREE with an opinion. When I saw this and heard this,I thought it was a parody or something. In New York City, I'm not sure of how many years it was around, but in the 80s and 90s WBLS 107.5 fm had a program called The Quiet Storm. They played slow R&B and mellow jazz from 10:00pm till I think 2:00 am. Well the opening song was always of course "Quiet Storm" by Smokey Robinson. but when Vaughn Harper (The original host) ended the show, he played another song. Itby BM31 - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Hip Hop has many volumes, enough to fill an encyclopedia. But for today I ask you to take ONE SENTENCE from any emcee or rapper, at any time in history that best explains to you what HipHop is.... After alot of thought, for me it would be.... 'There's a war going on outside no man is safe from'.... Prodigy(MobbDeep) - " The Shook Ones"by BM31 - Crate Digging: Hip Hop
It was truly a blessing to have been raised in The South Bronx, and to have witnessed what I have during the years between 1973 - 1981.From hearing all the DJ's and MC's when they all were just starting to how they moved through the ranks and how some blew up. Also to have been apart of it myself by performing at alot of the mainstays like The Audobon, The Cadet Corps,T-Connection,Harby BM31 - Crate Digging: Hip Hop

It's great to hear that people are out there with great expanded horizons. The love of music links us all in many ways. I totally agree with you in stating that even though things might be in different languages, Some styles sound virtually the same as others. North of Brazil they have Sertanejo music in which i equivilated it to our Country music. and their Forro music sounded like oriby BM31 - General Discussion

THANKS so much Uptown!! I appreciate that very much. My dad would have been 88 this year also. He fought on Okinawa in 45. He served with the 52nd Defense Battalion. It was a segregated unit. His stories inspired me to join in 1981, I stayed until 85. I was with 3/2 2ndMarDiv. Peace to you. Here's a pic of your man Beatmaster back on Parris Island in 81by BM31 - General Discussion
I didn't see ANY reference to an extremely important element in HIP HOP. Hip Hop dances There seems to be no reference of the HipHop dances that we did back then and subsequently was in almost every video during Hip Hop's hey day in the late 80s and early 90s. Please forgive me if I missed it, but I didn't appear to see it.I really do not know how you would go about incorpoby BM31 - General Discussion
Been a RAM and DODGER fan all my life. My family always talked about Jackie Robinson - Sans the Dodgers and the old L.A.Rams has Eric Dickerson. He was incredible to watch, he used to run upright like he wasn't even trying. been a fan of them ever since, even when they moved to St.Louis.by BM31 - General Discussion

Today I went with a little Les McCann Those who don't know already..will recognize that it was sampled in Biggie's "Ten Crack" joint back a long time ago.But I like the full record for the fusion aspect of it. Never like to use the term Blaxploitation. Because in the 70s those movies gave us our cool, our inspiration, made us laugh,cry,dance,etc..watching our urban lives transformed into the big screens backed by major studios to me was not exploitation, it was like watching the nightly news, it was welcome entertainment during some rough fiscal times in the NY.
