Thin Lizzy - Shades Of A Blue Orphanage
original release by Decca, 1972 - this pressing by Future Days Recordings, 2015
I picked up this pressing a few weeks ago when Light In The Attic was having a decent sale. The sound is good on this one, if a little light on bass, but that's what EQs are made for.
This is Lizzy's second LP, and contains some great early songs from the b

Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
July 3, 1978 - St. Paul Civic Center, St. Paul, MN
The second show of the July '78 tour was actually supposed to be the third. The July 2 gig in Milwaukee was cancelled due to inclement weather and concerns about the safety of the band playing in such conditions. This was unusual for the Dead as they made every effort to not miss a show and disappoint their fans.
Their frustra

Tori Amos - Welcome To Sunny Florida
Epic Music Video, 2004
Recorded at a great show in West Palm Beach on September 4, 2003 when she was touring in support of the Scarlet's Walk album. The title is a reference to the massive thunderstorm that dumped rain on everyone waiting at the venue that afternoon and early evening. Being a Florida native, that's just par for th

Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
July 1, 1978 - Arrowhead Stadium Kansas City, MO
This show was a bit unusual, even by the Dead's standards. Playing a single set (albeit one that stretched past the two hour mark) as a part of Willie Nelson's annual picnic, sharing the bill with Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Missouri, Jerry Jeff Walker, and Jessi Colter.
It's evident at the beginning of opener Bertha that

Grateful Dead - July 1978: The Complete Recordings
Rhino Records, 2016
This 12-CD box set compiles all five shows the Dead played in July 1978, from a strange one-set gig on July 1 (see post below) through to an epic performance at Red Rocks in Morrison, Colorado on 7/8.
These are some of the fabled "Betty Boards" that were once thought to be lost forever. If you

Fare Thee Well: Celebrating 50 Years Of The Grateful Dead
Rhino Records, 2015
This 3-CD/2-DVD set captures the Grateful Dead's final show together. Recorded at Soldier Field in Chicago on July 5, 2015, it provides a visually and sonically stunning document of one final great gig from a legendary band.
First up, let's tackle Trey Anastasio on guitar, filling in for the lat

I wanted to make this thread specifically for posts related to the Grateful Dead and the various projects from the core members of the band. Everything is fair game; studio albums, live shows, bootlegs, personal stories, whatever. Everyone is welcome to take this opportunity to share their records, tapes, CDs, favorite shows, and memorable experiences.
Personally, I have collected more stuff

Picked up a copy of Paul Desmond's "Skylark" from the local thrift:
I dig Paul Desmond, and this may be his best album from the 70s. He had a such great tone and his counterpoint playing was really unique. There are two albums he recorded with Gerry Mulligan that are worth hearing if you ever see them, especially Two Of A Mind. Great cool jazz.

Billy Idol - Charmed Life
Chrysalis, 1990
Released a few months after Idol had survived a near-fatal motorcycle accident, Charmed Life is aptly named. The hit single "Cradle Of Love" was featured in Andrew Dice Clay's film The Adventures Of Ford Fairlane, and got some heavy rotation on MTV. There's also a cover of "L.A. Woman" that got a decent amount of airp

^That Stone soundtrack sounds pretty cool. I'll be keeping an eye out for that album, and the movie too. I dig those old Aussie biker films.
Kids was a really good film. That Sebadoh track you posted there is great. I'm a huge fan of Lou Barlow's work, and what they were doing around the time this came out was some of the best stuff he's ever done, both with Sebadoh and Fol

Milt Jackson - A London Bridge
Pablo Records, 1988
A great performance from Milt Jackson, recorded in 1982. The whole quartet is in fine form, especially Monty Alexander on piano. The only clip I could find is the one below, but the whole album is fantastic. If you run across a copy of this one, be sure to check out the excellent version of "Captain Bill" that closes out side tw

They put out an amazing live album Europe 72 Live that was almost strictly straight up blues.
If you dig that Europe '72 album, they have released multiple volumes now covering most of that tour. The Hundred Year Hall album is a great set recorded in Germany on that tour that includes some of the more blues-based stuff, including a killer version of "Turn On Your Lovelig

Grateful Dead - Rocking The Cradle: Egypt 1978

Interesting back story there. Don't remember if I said this before, but The Dead are one of those groups I wrote off as bad hippy music when I was younger and haven't really given much time to since. I think the only thing I have is the Live/Dead CD I picked up on whim a few ye

Grateful Dead - Rocking The Cradle: Egypt 1978
Rhino Records, 2008
2 CD/DVD set documenting the two nights in 1978 that the Dead played at the foot of the Great Pyramids. There have always been some who claimed these shows were a disappointment, but there's no evidence of that here. The band is loose and even downright playful at times, and seems to be fully immersed in the exper

Mr. Gnome - Deliver This Creature / Night Of The Crickets 7".
Holy Cow! Mr. Gnome!
I saw them play in Dallas about a year and a half ago. I didn't know who they were and just wanted to check out a show while i was there for a couple of days. I saw a flyer for them at Club Dada and just went for the hell of it. They were a lot of fun to see live, with a diverse bunch

I think this a great idea for a thread! So many times a song can take on new dimensions in a live setting that make it totally different than a studio version. Thanks for posting this!
I know everyone's likely heard this one, but I really like Springsteen and have been listening to him quite a bit over the past couple of days. This is one of my favorite songs of his. The studio version is

Not a fan of those thin flap mailers but at least they put stiffeners and put the record behind the cardstock jacket to avoid seam splits. Nice touch that they sent it registered. If you have time, can you post the deadwax info for the record? I'm curious where it was pressed. Also, was it on plain black vinyl or something else?
I'll get the runout info the next time I

Rikk Agnew Band - Learn.
Frontier Records, 2016
Agnew's 2016 album is a raging affair from this pioneer of the SoCal punk scene. Even after almost four decades, he can still write those great songs and amazing riffs that pretty much put Orange County on the punk map. Ever single song on here is an absolute banger, with not a single moment of wasted time.

Pussy Riot - In Riot We Trust
Oi! The Nische Records, 2017
The newest release from Russian punk band Pussy Riot. Overtly political (only if you are fluent in Russian, though) and tough as nails, these women know what punk rock is all about in a way most of the modern so-called hardcore bands from the US can't even begin to imagine. Several members of this group have been jailed for m

Less than $20 bucks for the LP including shipping to the US?!?! I'm all over that! This is definitely good stuff. Sounds a bit like the softer side of late-80s early-90s Sonic Youth. Thanks for the tip on this one.

Single-sided cassette demo with three tracks of ultra lo-fi black/death metal. If you're a fan of the old 2nd wave black metal out of Norway, then this will likely appeal to you. The brand new album from this instrumental band out of Massachusetts. Spacey synths, crisp guitars, and funky beats are the order of the day here. Cosmic and danceable at the same time.

I love RevCo and all those other great projects Al Jougensen was involved with back in the 90s. They always had the best cover songs, and the track "Gila Copter" that was on Linger Ficken' Good with this song was just excellent. Something about Timothy Leary being on the same record with
