Howso?
Do you mean current day BEP or before they started to suck, their first 2 albums?
Either way I would strongly disagree.
Fugees > BEP

Maybe we just like they Fugees because they were big in our teen years and really they are just the original bad of a multi-cultural-gender-pop-rap-R&B group and only a forerunner to BEP. That's what I've been thinking about recently. Do I like them because they were good or because it was a formative time in my life. Are they really that different than BEP. Think about it. Canibus's album Can-I-Bus was amazing. Wyclef produced it but it was a total flop. So does that mean the Fugees dope production was really second fiddle to the look and image of the Fugees? Were they popular because of their persona and the music could have been anything? That's what I been wondering on.

Another theory I have is if you wear a mask (or outfit) you will be an instant success. Deadmau5, Doom, Devo, Daft Punk, Kiss, etc, etc. They music is all good for the most part but they'd probably never been noticed had it not been for the imagery. Even think about Gaslamp Killer's hair... D-Styles is a bazillion times more skilled. They both are the DJs behind Low End Theory in LA... but who's only known by scratch nerds and who's know world over? Or Klever... he was a scratch nerd superstar but a nobody. Then he got lasec, sleeve tats and now he's known--sadly not for his sick battle skills, but as a dance DJ.

the only commonality between the Fugees and BEP is they have/had a chick in the group...outside of that, nothing else is similar or the same. if you want a comparible group, i'd probably say Arrested Development was more like BEP, than the Fugees.....maybe, Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam....LOL.

peace.
