All this went down in the early 2000's
Just want to know what yall thought about it,
who you felt was the better of the two at the time.
Also do you believe that BEEF, legit or not is a Hip Hop Element?

Peace.

I think this was a classic hip hop battle. I would say that although Jay had more of a following at the time, Nas got him with Ether. I think Jay really needed to rethink his strategy afterwards, because he could not counter with the whole" my album sales vs your album sales " argument anymore. As a result he couldnt respond effectively. I mean cmon who really remembers Superugly anyways. Although I wouldnt call it an element, I think these types of things are good for hip hop, provided that they stay on wax and the emcees are quality. Unfortunately what we have now is a bunch of clowns who make "beef" or business acumen the focal point of their careers as opposed to their art. *cough *Game*cough*

Yes, I also believe that the emcee should be properly established and also the beef itself
should have some type of real thing happen between the two.Instead of supermarket bought beef.
Yes, Superugly was ...well super ugly.
In this I thought Jay caught the style points,
Nas took the rhymes.

I have always held the belief that they were jealous of each other for different things at different points in their respective careers. The fact remains that Jay made no secret of dislike for him on Takeover...and that singlehanded lay lit a fire under Nas' ass and he became so inspired he penned one of the best diss records of all time..Superugly seemed like a desperate rebuttal that was hurriedly put together in order for Jay not to be classifed as a punk...It lacked the intensity of "Ether" . You could hear the frustration with Jay and all his sneak dissin' over the years. This was hip hop at its best. Two worthy opponents duking it out on wax ,leaving us,the audience with quotables that will go down in hip hop history (once agin I'm too tired to name them but you get my drift)

Although I wouldnt call it an element,

I feel you true,although
I'd like to get down with a little convo on this one fam.
Is it or is it not an element?

I remember MC battles as far back as 1978,
of course Herc started with Coke 5 years earlier, so I know in some hood somewhere
brothers and sisters had to be battlin'.
In saying this...
if BEEF has been around almost as long as it's inception
why wouldn't it be an element?
Because isn't it among the atoms and molecules that make up the total body of Hip Hop?
I don't know what do yall think?
