Contemporary Jeep Music-I'm definitely biased...
co-sign on Fruits of Nature and Boss oh and Artifacts ...that debut album was good.

I think that's the second time you've mentioned your bias for that record hiphopchiq1, what's the story? I'm listening...

I love that album too, so many good cuts and for the world at large it's definitely a sleeper record.

How about a couple more recent ones?

Rashad & Confidence - Element Of Surprise

^^^ just dope. Clean, practiced and thoughtfully written and delivered rhymes. Dope production. The technical mastery and cleanness on this record are a breath of fresh air in an era of so many rough loosie cuts.

Rasheed Chappell - Future Before Nostalgia

This wasn't really slept on amongst a lot of Hip Hop fans but I knew people passed over this one...really, same reasons as above on this.

Y-Society - Travel At Your Own Pace

Okay, on Hip Hop forums Damu is praised all over the place but Y-Society put together a classic record that very few people actually talk about. So nice.

Skyzoo - The Salvation

Sky is quite possibly my favorite "newer" rapper, this is a GREAT record if you're into really deep/dissectable lines. Sky really plays a lot with the notion of being caught in between on this record: sell drugs or go to school/play it straight is the main dichotomy in his early work.

Lushlife - Cassette City

I'm biased: hometown hero and someone I've gotten to chop it up with plenty. Lush is stupid talented and this record is daring but well executed...he's clearly a student of the earlier era but is more than willing to incorporate sounds that many producers don't (read: indie rock mainly here). Awesome album, his rhymes are nice too.

Reks - Grey Hairs and More Grey Hairs

Someone mentioned Reks recently, he's so dope. His more recent R.E.K.S. album got a lot more shine than these two...admittedly there are definitely skip-worthy tracks here; mine these two albums for your own compilation of choice cuts (I know that's cheating a bit) and you should be happy.

Ka - Grief Pedigree

Holy shit. I slept on this for far too long. This is grimey, grinding, slow and still but maybe one of the most thoughtful Hip Hop records I've listened to in a long time. Each word has a place. The beats are really raw loops, and unlike his frequent collaborator Roc Marciano, the drums aren't really punched up...the end product is so stripped down.
I know people might listen to this and think "okay, where's his energy? He sounds stiff..." but his monotonous delivery is something that allows the listener to cherish the words all the more. This screams for repeat listens and should always be coupled with the advice of giving it more than one chance.

Alright, that's it for now...I think these are all recent and dope.

Brother Uptown, you know how I like to get down.
Those OSHH days are long over.I just like to stop through and share a little music talk with the contributers of you and RC's great site.I'm always up for a good and spirited debate,my friend...but I can't take it back to those days anymore.I just don't have the energy.Everyone here is more than entitled to their own opinions and I have all the respects for everyone of them.

My little diatribe was just about bringing some more people to our table to talk about the things we love and are passionate about.Say a young person is out there and they excel at Math, right? They still would not be quick to join a Calculus forum.Sure they know some geometry and a little algebra, but wouldn't you think they would feel a little uncomfortable talking math in the atmosphere of so many knowledgeable people.I'm a pretty good chess player Uptown, but I ain't trying to talk chess in a forum of guys ranked 1800 and above. What would I say to guys that play at that level?I would not have the confidence that my knowledge could contend with theirs or if I would be able to say something that they even thought was interesting about the subject of Chess.

So I just simply suggested that maybe we can lead them in a little by creating some things to talk about.I thought by maybe bringing attention to one or two particular cuts on these albums that you listed, might cause a person with a flighting attention span to go to the youtubes or amazons to check it out.Maybe they would find that it was dope and is underappreciated. Therefore, they might just comeback and stay long enough to pull up a chair.Get the insight they was inadvertently looking for and tell a few of their friends online about us.

My post was not for guys like you and me.It was for the people that might be curious enough to open the door to find out what was going on in here, but was a little gunshy about offering their opinions about the subject matter.A thesis is not necessary.Just a little something for them to say..Hey, I know that.Let me say something on that..That's all I was looking for,my good brother.I had no intention of a thread jack,I think it's an excellent topic and people have already started to build on it.I was just adding my opinion.

Peace to ya,P as always.

All respect due, BeatMaster, my brotha....but you already did, brah....three times over already.

Real story....I had a girl once, that lost me....'cause the girl wouldn't shut up, kept arguing and repeating herself saying the same sh*t, 3, 4 and 5 times - when I got her point the first time around (when it should've been deaded, at that point). Man, she'd do this over, and over....and over again - to the point I had to step....couldn't take the shit no more. Me - I say shit once, make my point...give my thoughts - or arguments - or debates....whateva...and that's it - it's dropped. Anyway, the moral of the story is....

...I'd hate to have to lock this thread.

@vamosarapier - no doubt on your call out on hiphopchiq..,,

@hiphopchiq - what up, Ma? You done mentioned your bias with Da king and I....Inquiring minds want to know. shaggy

peace.
