Song help anyone?
May 25, 2013 03:10PM
This is probably the first time in quite a few years I've managed to put myself in the type predicament we all hate. I heard a great song and have absolutely no idea what it is. So since this site is called cratedigging.co, y'all need to help me by digging through your reggae crates!

Anyway, I was out yesterday at a local festival and there was a dj who played a lot of nice roots reggae songs. One in perticular caught my ear. It was a male vocalist and the chorus repeated the word or name "Layla" [la:ila] not [le:ila]. It was repeated about 3 or 4 times in the chorus before it was pronouced a bit differently and more rapidly almost like the arabic words "Lā 'ilāha 'illā llāha", but not quite. I'd guess it was a late 70's - mid 80's song.

I've googled a whole lot but only come across reggae covers of Eric Claptons song and a song by that same name by Iration, but that wasn't it either. Hopefully my fuzzy description can ring someone's bell. Please help a brutha out!

Tough one G. Got any more info? I'll see what I can dig up but with what you gave so far it's not ringing any bells.

Honestly I don't really expect anyone to get it from that description. I know it's vague, but that's as elaborate as I can be unfortunately. I figuered it doesn't hurt to ask. My kids were running around and the system was a bit too loud, so I didn't get any more lyrics.

On second thought...maybe it was the word "Haile"...nevermind...it's too vague. I'll keep hearing it in my head 'till that beautiful day when it once appears before me.
