Still furious but Im no quitter..

The BET hip hop awards was more like a concert with some comedic interludes and about maybe two awards actually given out. Most of it was a blur..but her are some highlights...
Wiz Khalifa and his skinny jeans started off the show with appearances by Jeezy and Juicy J...seemed harmless enough..
Rakim was given some kind of icon award and after a lot of "knowwhatI'msayin " he gave a shout out to Red Alert who looked like hip-hop's version of Father Time..I was actually disappointed that Rakim had nothing insightful to say about his life's work or to his contemporaries many of whom have looked up to him since they were little ...in my eyes that slightly diminished his standing as the "God Mc"

The always semi nude Rick Ross did a set with appearances by,his breasts, a white mink coat, and a scary Michael Jackson impersonator new label signee Omarion.
The always spirited 2 Chainz moved the crowd by declaring that all he wanted for his birthday was some big booty hoes while his beautiful baby daughter looked on (wish I was kidding-she did have on headphones though,I guess they aren't that ig'nant)
Diddy and his new roster of artists (whom I'm sure he will relieve of all their paper) Future,Machine Gun Kelly (who got stuck in some ridiculous contraption) French Montana all performed a their "hits" and Uncle Luke appeared and helped them out on "pop that"

Everybody that belongs to this forum basically knows what a cipher is...dudes would get together in a circle and showcase their best off-the-dome rhymes in efforts to outlast, outplay, and outwit their opponents on some Survivor shit..The BET cipher interludes that are shown in between acts ,are not ciphers in the traditional sense (rhymes are definitely written)but its fun and you do get to see your fav artist in a different element. Most of the artists these days are you tube darlings and they have no idea how to battle rhyme. These artists did not come up in an era where your skill set was your sword and your shield ,but no disrespect not everyone is comfortable in a cipher setting. Also if you are not impressive in your own individual songs on the radio I'm not expecting for you to drop jewels in a televised cipher. But if you call yourself a professional and you are called on to perform you should be able to "show up" Even with written rhymes most of the artists who were chosen to perform did not deliver impressive performances. This year I could definitely feel some of them buckling under the pressure. I think the corporate machine has gotten wind of how popular this segment is on this particular award show and it had everyone scurrying to see who could make the best showing...I think because of that most fell flat..
Murda mook stood put in a cipher that included Eve,,Dmx (intensity and ferocity still intact despite the drug usage ) and Cassidy -y'all should check that out..

Why do I continue to torture myself?

excellent review, hiphopchiq. very funny at times (re: rick Ross man-boobs Red Alert/hip hop's version of Father time) , very insightful and very informative. Its a shame that Ra didn't spit any jewels. Sounds like he needs to take notes from his peers like Chuck D and KRS and learn to speak like an intelligent, grown-ass man...send messages that can teach this young men and women - to stop this buffoonery. soap box rant

anyways...good lookin' on the review.

Yeah great stuff HHC. But by the way, when it comes to describing a man's boobs I prefer the term bitch tits LOL. I don't know why it's just funny as hell.
