I was invited here by rchecka from /r/vinyl over at reddit.com.

I am 29 and from Melbourne, Australia. Here's a bit about my musical background:

I spent most of my youth listening exclusively to hip hop mainly from the USA, France and Australia. At around 18, I discovered soul, jazz and funk samples and breaks and this led to the pursuit of many new musical tangents driven by a passion for record collecting and DJing.

The majority of my record collection is based around music produced in the years 1977-1986. Key genres of interest are disco, boogie, electro, hip hop, new wave, jazz funk, post punk, italo, dub, lovers rock, yacht rock, modern soul, Balearic, cosmic, library, new age, europop, forgotten pop, proto house and psych.

As a DJ (who plays out less and less) I also like to keep up with modern music, and I listen to, and collect most current day progressions from these sounds. My hip hop knowledge really dropped off after about 2005, so I hope that this board can help keep me up to date with what’s going on today.
