I believe they scan the first 30ish seconds to see if they recognise it as a released track (rather than something created by the user). If recognised it gets blocked, and I've had some stuff blocked that certainly isnt mainsteam (so they're on the ball).
The way round it is to create an intro thats spoken word (or whatever), but regardless of that Soundcloud only has a 2 hour free upload after that you pay. So far I think Mixcloud is free and unlimited.

Good info, thanks for that. Not sure how you could upload ANY mixes if it recognizes other peoples' content. I uploaded a mix there that is all "not my" content and not that obscure, so maybe they only worry about certain labels? I guess we can only speculate.

BTW, not the same at all, but I use a sendspace pro account 8 bucks a month for unlimited uploads and downloads and there's no content checks on that at all.

But it's not like Mixcrate, where the community was involved, so that's almost a unrelated point.

Yeah, quite odd what they ban.
I had a mix that started with this track. Relatively obscure I would of thought. Banned!?!

Edit: I've just checked who else is on the same label, some big names and Virgin/Branson related. Quite possibly a label thing?

Here's an interesting news development for Soundcloud DJ Mixes, apparently there is less road blockage on DJ mixes now...
