I can't believe we didn't already have a downtempo electronic music thread.

For the purposes of this thread...

Downtempo: Anything that's clearly electronic based music that is way too slow to dance to and is dedicated to basically just chilling out.

Don't forget, like all genre specific threads, this will be linked to in the genre lasso topic for easy finding later. (Finding genre threads is easy. Control-F is your friend!)

I'll start off with some Ninja Tune joints...

Last night...

Mr Scruff - Honeydew 12" (Ninja Tune) 1999

^Arguably one of Mr Scruff's all time best tracks he produced with a vocalist. The entire album this is from is incredible (Keep it Unreal) but I had to have the 12" as well for the remixes and bonus tracks.

If you don't know about the goodness of this track it is your obligation to peep this video right now. I never get sick of this song sung by Feebi. I love the dub beat change up at the very end to keep this interesting.

Amon Tobin - Kitchen Sink Remixes 12" (Ninja Tune) 2007

^Nice recent reissue, a 45 RPM on 180 gram, they did a few of these a few years ago when they realized their best singles were impossible to find. Some of the ones they reissued in this series never got dropped on wax so do not hesitate to pick up these later Ninja Tune limited reissues. I bought this for the Sixtoo remix of Kitchen Sink but really the whole thing is good. I think the Clark Remix might even be better.

Blockhead - Sunday Séance 12" (Ninja Tune) 2004

^The title of the 12" is the best track on here but the remix is completely different and still equally enjoyable. On the flip you get a indie rap track with Aesop Rock and Camu Tao. RIP to Camu Tao, a rapper who died of lung cancer four years after this release in 2008.

Check the Loka remix of Sunday Séance featured also on the Art of Flight Soundtrack.

Bonobo - Flutter 12" (Ninja Tune) 2003

^Early Bonobo was already showing that they were next level downtempo. They have branched out into indie rock since 2003 and have dabbled in downtempo but now they reside mostly in the indie rock category.

Check the simplicity and warmth of "Flutter"

^Wow that video is like living inside a lava lamp.

Cumulonimbus - Precipitation EP (Ninja Tune/Hombre Records) 2003

^Really sweet downtempo synth vibes on this.

This is the one song that's strong electro, the others are straight up chill downtempo.

Not familiar with Ninja Tune stuff at all, interesting thread. Did you ever do a mix dedicated to the label?

As a matter of fact years ago I did start a Ninja Tune mix but like way too many projects I got side tracked and put it on the back burner. I need to revisit that idea as I have over 100 Ninja Tune records in my collection and I think it would be a really cool concept.
