Dettinger - Intershop



Olaf Dettinger was/is a producer on Kompakt Records, very much part of the "Cologne Tech House" sound that became popular in the late 90s and early 2000s. His production work was split between upbeat dance tracks (only released on 12'' and comps.) and more chilled out ambient techno like this album. During the time he was active (1998-2000), he released only three 12'' EPs and two albums. With such a small discography, the quality of his work was very high all around with absolutely no duds. I bought his stuff as it came out, but sadly I do not have those 12'' EPs any more.

Anyway, back to this album. It's very minimal, with washes of ambient melody and sharp, almost hip-hop influenced beats. Kind of hard to describe, so just listen. For a long time, this remained a CD only release, but last year Kompakt reissued this on LP.

For my personal tastes, the Germans are absolutely the best at this kind of stuff. That clip is excellent. I'll check out some more of his stuff.
