I like Adele... If Rick Rubin is responsible for someone, I usually like them.

Haha!

I can't help it man, the Grammys are going way overboard about her (as usual) so many people are raving about her, and in terms of "soulful" musicians there is way much better stuff out there that are still fairly new artists. People aint kissing Sharon Jone's ass like that and she's way more talented. It bugs me that people sleep on some good shit while honing in on what the schwagg press is dishing out. I guess I'm hating that whole thing.

Have you actually "listened" to any songs of hers? i'm not talking about "hearing" hear songs on the radio station and changing channels because its "another popular new artist"...but, actually "listen" to any of those hits she had out throughout 2011? If you did, i'm sure you wouldn't being drinking the haterade (on Adele). The girl has got some pipes on her...moreso than that girl, who all these media-dicks are glorifying - who died not too long ago, Amy Winehouse. You want to talk "overrated', lets talk about her....

In contrary what you think - The people who know Sharon Jones's music are kissing her ass. And, maybe if she went to a major label, and have "the machine" backing her up - she might get the commerical recognition (and success) that Adele is now getting. Now - when you have an older Black woman singing great, soulful music (on an independant label...touring small, intimate venues)....versus a (novelty of the time) young, british, white girl who's singing great, soulful music (who has the backing and pull of "the machine" ) - the public hype, public adoration, sales and recognition and overall (award) success will always go with the novelty....it's just the way it is...

...not sure why you're actiing like you dont know how the game is....

never knew about Rick Rubin's association w/Adele...that's interesting. Just as it's interesting that he's producing Black Sabbath's upcoming album (for this fall). All I know is, he better come correct with their album, like Van Halen came correct with their new one. Rock On

Honestly? No I haven't. Every time I passively hear her one already overplayed song on the radio I run away so I never cared to give her album a listen. I'll add that if it's anything as simple and catchy as her hits I'm probably not missing out on anything that's in my musical taste. I could be wrong, I've been wrong before. But if I want to, I could just listen to the CD, I think my mom has it and that fact right there is enough for me to not want to hear it. I love my Mom too, but we ain't on the same planet musically.

I remember when it was Amy Winehouse that the media was blowing up. I eventually warmed up to her music despite the hype too, but it didn't take very long for me to get sick of her sound either. I also remember it happening to Joss Stone before that, now no one ever talks about her either. I think that will happen to Adele eventually, people are always looking for the next "it" girl and eventually Adele will be too well known to keep the press interested in her. Then someday, she'll die and predictably everyone will blast her music for another year straight just like they are doing with Whitney right now. That's a sad state of affairs.

I know the game, but I don't like that game. Hating or not, I'm taking my ball home with me pouting that the other kids ain't playing the game my way. That's my point. CBS News this morning was raving about her, I don't want to get my music recommendations from CBS news, the day I do that is the day I stop trying to dig deeper, the day I get officially "old". Maybe CBS news is right, and maybe I'm sleeping on Adele. But I'm right about them sleeping on Sharon Jones, and simply because she's not on the major labels, they won't listen, which means they are being as closed minded as I am (if not moreso). I'm not gonna loose any sleep for sleeping on Adele, they won't loose any sleep sleeping on Jones. It just would be nice if they spread their love around a little bit for the sake of the "Joneses" but like you said, it's the way the game is played.
