^Quality, G.M.M.

Right now...

The Gerald Wilson Orchestra - The Golden Sword LP (Pacific Jazz Records) 1966

^So dope I had to stop the platter for this. File Under: Latin Influenced Horn stabs that'll make your heart skip a beat. I keep coming back to this because it seems to age better with time. This is my trusty jazz.

Lately,

Heliocentrics - 13 Degrees of Reality LP (Now-Again) 2013

^It was time to revisit this album that came out earlier this year. Talk about one slept on album in 2013, this is that. Loaded with their signature spacy sound this album is a journey. Seems like this band is a funky respectful nod to Sun Ra.

Various - The Adventurers OST LP (Symbolic) 1970

^Probably one of the best soundtracks I own if not thee best. It has everything from funk to disco to jazz and even a little orgasmic porn music. Not at all cohesive, each track differs in style, but it still somehow flows along perfectly.

Arthur Verocai - Arthur Verocai LP (Luv N' Haight) 2003 RE of 1972 OG

^Nice! My Christmas trade from JB landed and it's a doozy. I have heard a few of these songs in the form of Hip Hop samples and, now that I think about it, one of the songs was on a great mixtape from Prefuse73. Spectacular Latin album, in so many ways, you can set it (drop a needle) and forget it (play it all the way thru till you gotta flip it) and then repeat. The last song is brutally good jazz.

Various - Ultimate Breaks & Beats ‎– Instrumentals LP (Traffic Entertainment) 2008

^Rumored to be the work of members of El Michaels Affair scrupulously recreating the original funk songs without the singer and it is beyond funky. You start out wanting the lyrics to be there but you end up missing nothing when you play this 2LP all the way thru. I can see how this is definitely a useful record.

Electric Prunes - Release Of An Oath LP (Reprise) 2006 RE of 1968 OG

^Speaking of Breaks, this one is a really groovy side project for David Axelrod and Hip Hop took notice plenty of times. File under: Epic Non Denominational Holy Funk Jazz. A nice and cheap and loud and essential reissue for David Axlerod completionists.

Queens of the Stone Age - Queens of the Stone Age LP (Domino) 2011 RE of 1998 OG

^Here it is FINALLY, the best QofSA album on FAT wax. Nicely reissued and remastered on this NSFW gatefold and it's cool as hell. I gladly overpaid for this from my local seller cuz it's that essential to my rock section.
