Amad Jamal - Freeflight



^Really superb live album from the Montreux Jazz Festival. There's some basslines in here that sound like they've been sampled before but I can't place it. Regardless, this is really nice jazz. Damn you Ann Hahn for writing your name on the cover of my nice used record.



Young-Holt Unlimited - Soulful Strut



Young and Holt got so much fire out there. As individuals too, but this one is classic. I've had this one for a while, since back in the days as a DJ newb when I felt I had to put a damn BMP listing\Hello: sticker on every record like a gotdamn ponkass kid.



Soundgarden - Before The Doors 10" (Record Store Day 2011 Black Friday Release)



NICE!!! Back in 1996 on the road, Soundgarden recorded their sound checks. So much more then just hearing check, check, check! They cover the Doors - Waiting for the Sun, do a few raw takes of some early tracks, it's mastered much better then I thought it'd be given the nature of the recordings. Soundgarden fans should grab this if they see it!

Back to the real world after a long holiday break. Not quite as relaxing as I woulda liked but Christmas never is as you already know.

But at least I had a little time to bump some decent wax...


Dennis Coffey - Dennis Coffey (Strut Records) LP



DC's newest one and after coming back to it for a few more listens I'm really appreciating this even more. Diverse album, strong funk vibes, all kinds of collabs, veteran funk master at the helm... you can't go wrong w/ that.



The Cure - Demos Pt 1 (2LP comp)



I've been digging out old Cure tracks lately, this comp is definitely one of my favorites. Super old raw recordings alternate versions of this depressing introspective bastard band. Some of these tracks are more punk then anything, and very different then his later stuff. Robert Smith plays an organ on a alt take of 10:15, it's slowed down and very eerie, great stuff!



Alice In Chains - Jar of Flies \ Sap EPs (2 LP EP)



^BEST CHRISTMAS PRESENT EVER! My wife earned lots of points with me for knowing me so well, I screamed like a kid when I unwrapped this FAT 180 Gram Import Re-issue of Alice In Chains 2 best releases. It cost a little bit more then I would spend but it was worth it! Sounds so rich to hear those acoustic guitars, harmonicas and violins that I never noticed before on CD. I hadn't listened to this in 10 years so it was definitely a blast from the past to hear this again. Talk about grunge, this is the best "grunge" EPs ever released IMO.
