Well, I would say Ani DiFranco since apparently that's considered chick rock, but the only catch is that I'm not guilty about it at all! I am quite open and loud about thinking she's the shit. Her guitar playing is so great it blows my mind consistently. Her and Mike Doughty had the same poetry professor and I think you can see some similarities in their lyrical styles that probably stem from that.

Chick bands or soloists that sing for chicks only:

Tore-my Anus

i have no fewer than 12 tori amos records. seriously.

counting her hilariously bad 80's teen pop album that she disavows. i'm a sucker for hilariously bad 80's pop.

No Doubt (barely, but it can make the list if you include their recent albums)

their more recent stuff is okay... do you mean gwen stefani's solo stuff? cause that's kind of chick-pop.

anyways, you wanna talk chick pop, i own both of adele's albums. i went through a phase where i just kind browsed amazon's new vinyl releases section, listened to samples, and bought shit based on that. i was like, "well, this sounds retro, i guess that's cool." then it was all over the radio like the next week. and now i have very little desire to ever play them again.
