My wife surprised me a few days ago with some joints off my want list .

Showbiz & AG - Runaway Slave 2lp. Dope back in tha day joint . Love the gritty sound on this repress . I'm sure that most if not all of you already know what's up with this one ..

Herman Kelly & Life - ...Percussion Explosion ! Another good one that I'm sure most of you are familiar with . Any beathead or break junkie has this in their collection . Not a bad sounding repress .

Country Soul Sisters vol.2 2lp Definitely more country than soul , but not bad overall .

The Village Soul Choir - Soul Sesame Street lp. So , we have been discussing kids records lately , but this Sesame Street joint is much more grown up . This one delivers too . A much more funky / soulful version of songs that still seem to give me the same feeling that they did when I was a kid ..

Lady - Self -titled lp. Not Sure how many people here get into newer r&b / neo-soul , but I know a few of you are into old school soul . This album is a perfect example of how to blend those styles . Terri Walker & Nicole Wray are excellent together . Definitely worth a listen for the soul / r&b heads .

Sorry for the dark pics ...

^^^ nice. And always dope to have them be a surprise AND from the lady! Gonna check out that "Lady" album.

Hit up a shop the other day and walked out empty-handed. I know rchecka would probably be happy but I hate walking into a store full of hardcore and/or punk records, there are a few shops in Philly that are largely irrelevant to me because of this. Not saying not worth a trip, they just don't cater to my tastes.

Anyways, went back to my usual spot the other day when I heard they got a nice copy of that Galt MacDermot record in.

Sun Ra - The Solar Myth Approach, Vol. 2 (BYG Records)
Shuggie Otis - Here Comes Shuggie Otis (repress)
Roy Ayers - Africa, Center Of The World
Marlena Shaw - From The Depths Of My Soul

Galt MacDermot- Cotton Comes To Harlem (nice, clean copy)
Willie Hutch - Fully Exposed
D'Angelo - Voodoo (repress)
The Beatnuts - Intoxicated Demons (nicer copy)

Few other bits and pieces from the webs over the last few weeks as well.

^Man I'm very jealous of that right there. I shoulda been on the ball and known about that b4 it was too late.

On top of that you got a great Sun Ra record (I got that too, do you have Lanquidity? That is a wonderful one to start with) some Hutch, Beatnuts, Galt, Ayers and Otis! Very good!

@ JB, I agree about that Sesame Street Soul, very grown up sounds that kids can dig too.

This week I copped a few that I have been missing myself...

Can - Out of Reach LP (Lightning Records) 1978

^Kraut Gods dropped this psych sounding 70s album that is layered with eerie textures between the guitars. Really amazing sound. I gotta get my hands on these guys discography. I finally picked up this nice heavy repress last week.

Natural Yogurt Band - Away With Meloncholy 2X10" LP (Jazzman) 2008

^About a year or so ago JB recommended I got their 2010 release "Tuck in With" and I have practically wore the thing out I loved it so much. Well it's time to return the favor and recommend this to him\everyone, this is even better! Jazzman is such a class act label, too bad they reside in the UK or I'd clean out their entire catalog.

^^ appreciate it. To be honest, that Sun Ra record is a little too out there for me. I have so few of his records that I'm wary of diving too deep (same with James Brown, I almost refuse to start myself with JB vinyl 'cause I know where that will end up), this one was just calling me. Will have to peep Lanquidity, like I said, I'm a total beginner when it comes to Sun Ra (despite his having had based himself in Philly in his latter years). I've got Sleeping Beauty (I think?) and love it (and a few other records). In any case, I think I need stuff from him—and in general—that is a little more structured...I get a little bored and disinterested in the excessively "free" and meandering. I need to give this a few more spins but to be honest I might end up putting it on the chopping block for a different Sun Ra record.

The DWG record is something special. Obviously it's a little more than a regular release given the context (here I am rationalizing the price) but I'm sure that's something I'll hold onto dearly down the line.

I went to the store for the Galt record, nothing else...that happens too often. ((angrysmokey))

Gonna check out the Natural Yogurt Band, I've heard good things 'round these parts...what should I start with?
