I don't know much about Mitty, but she's got a great voice, perfect for this type of R&B. This is her first LP, originally released in 1965. There are some strings and such on this album, but they don't detract too much from the power and feel of the songs. This particular pressing is some kind of latter day reissue from a few years back, but I don't have any more info on it beyond that. I found it at a local store, shrinkwrap was starting to crack and the LP was marked down. The record came in a nice poly-lined inner sleeve with no window for the label.

First album from this group, with their sound in between some sort of pre-synthpop new wave/post punk, generally leaning towards a pop/melodic direction. I really like this album, but don't have anything else by the group. Highly recommended if you like this kind of thing. My copy is an old U.S. pressing on Virgin/Dinidisc.

Although Dag recorded a full album's worth of tracks with Shawn Brown prior to this LP, this was their first officially released album, originally put out in 1986. The band is noteworthy for including Brian Baker on guitar (previously of Minor Threat) and Dave Smalley on vocals (previously of DYS). This doesn't really sound anything like either of those groups, but it's damn good. If you like high-energy, emotionally charged punk rock, give this a shot. This particular copy is a contemporary pressing on Dischord.

Adolescents' first LP, originally released in 1981. This LP sort of bridges the gap between the pre-hardcore styles of 70s LA punk and the faster, more aggressive hardcore that would come to prominence around this time and just a little bit later. For the standout points of this LP are the catchiness of the songs, and the dark vibe to many of them. I think it's pretty telling that Rikk Agnew would end up playing in both Christian Death and D.I., which took the "dark" thing even further. This particular copy is a contemporary pressing on Frontier, on marbled green vinyl. For anyone that cares, the actual mastering/lacquer cut on this was taken from a much older set of mother/father plates.

Trout Mask Replica might be more lauded and influential, but for me this is the album that really helped me "get" the Captain, and remains my favorite of his. This particular pressing is a budget reissue done by Scorpio from a few years ago. Not sure if it still available, but some stores might have leftover stock. It has since been rendered obsolete by the reissue included in the Sun Zoom Spark boxset, which I have yet to buy.

Definitely a great post LionsMouth . Several albums I'm not familiar with . Your posts always put me up on new music .... thanks for that !! I was just listening to some Dag Nasty with a co-worker on the job a few days ago . DAve Smalley has been in a few good bands.
