^That record is one of the first really great reggae records I bought. That one in a way got me started down that whole path. Cedric IM is one awesome and mysterious producer.

Black Uhuru - Showcase LP (Taxi) 1979



^I love Sly and Robbie so much. That duo is like a reggae production super group in my mind, they have a way of making dub "shine".

That said you can tell this is one of those old OG island releases where basic quality control of final output is thrown out the window. The record label looks like it was cut by and glued on by Michael J Fox with a safety scissors, the cover is barely hanging on by a thread, the vinyl sounds like they got sand from the island mixed in with the vinyl pellets, and don't even THINK of touching the edges of the record or you'll get a EXTREMELY painful vinyl sliver in your finger, and the strange divots on the record that look like pinholes cannot be good .

I figured optimistically, "What the hell... I'll run it thru good ol' Spin Clean, then let's see how it sounds."

Nah, no difference. The record is a lot shinier and maybe it's a little better sounding but it already was scratch free, the pressing was just ass and Spin Clean can't fix that.

But the music... MAN... I want it to sound better than it sounds because the music is so good, I actually endure all that noise to listen to this record. It basically sounds like a 78 from 1878 but I love this record so much I put on my ear noise blinders to listen to the thing.

^That Black Uhuru LP was issued under several different names and went through many different pressings. My copy is a CD called "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner". Also probaby my favorite Black Uhuru album.
