Ape Machine - Live At Freak Valley

These guys pump out chugging, 70s style songs like there's no tomorrow. This LP comes in a nice gatefold with a bonus DVD of the entire performance. Good stuff if you're looking for heavy rock'n'roll that worships at the Church of Sabbath.

^My kind of metal for sure. Good one!

Vinterland - Welcome My Last Chapter - 15 Year Old Blood CD

One of my favorite black metal albums of the 90s, but one I didn't find out about until years after it was released. Thankfully Temple of Darkness Records did this limited reissue a few years back, and they did a really nice job on it overall. The disc and jewel case comes packed in a clam shell cardboard case with some inserts and features a cover of Mayhem's Freezing Moon as a bonus track. Musically, Vinterland are in a similar territory as contemporaries such as Sacramentum and Dawn. Melodic guitar over fast black metal music and fairly indecipherable, raspy vocals. This style has been done to death these days but Vinterland did it very well while they were around. Unfortunately, they never released anything else after this album.

I have their two demos on tape (dubs, not originals) and they're pretty raging. I've never run across a copy of this album. Cool that you found such a nice reissue. I like Temple of Darkness. I've always been able to get quality stuff from them.

Didn't know about the demos and never heard them. Maybe those will get reissued one day. Surely there would be interest. I think I got this direct from the label a few years ago...they may still have copies and I know they eventually did a 2xLP version. Shipping from Europe is probably expensive though. I don't have anything else from the label but would try one of their other releases in the future.

Botanist - I: The Suicide Tree | II: A Rose From The Dead
Tumult, 2011

Do you love plants, but hate people? Do you think the way black metal should be played is with hammered dulcimers and drums? Have you ever listened to a nice eco-terrorist love song and said to yourself "This would be much better if the vocals sounded like a rabid frog vomiting rancid swamp water"?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, Botanist may be just what you need.

In all seriousness, even though all of the above are true, this is pretty awesome stuff. The photo shows a double CD set containing the first two albums, but I would honestly recommend any of their output if you dig what's going on here.
