Détente - Recognize No Authority
original release by Metal Blade/Restless Records, 1986 - this pressing by Cognitive Records, 2017

I was absolutely stoked to find a new reissue of this album of blazing West Coast 80s thrash. I have an original cassette that is pretty well worn out from the way I played the shit out of it years ago. If you;re in the market for a total kick ass headbanging good time, this should fit the bill.

Singer Dawn Crosby was one of the true pioneers of women in extreme metal. After Détnete broke up, she formed another band called Fear Of God that released a couple of albums in the early 90s. Sadly, she passed in 1996 at the age of 33 from liver failure due to drug abuse.

Nice pick. That's been on my wish list for awhile. Another female fronted thrash band I like is Holy Moses.

Buffalo - Volcanic Rock
original release by Vertigo, 1973 - this expanded CD by Aztec Music, 2005

Some heavy psych-infused proto-stoner rock from Australia. This is the second of five albums these dudes put out back in the 70s. They're all worth checking out, but this one is my personal favorite of the bunch. The CD reissue in the picture above comes with two bonus tracks and a hefty booklet with essays, photos and gig flyers. Top notch sound on the remastering, too.

That cover is hilarious. The music sounds pretty good though. Need to check this one out some more.

^Speaking of Stoner Rock...

Masters of Reality - Deep in the Hole LP (Bong Load Records) 2017 RE of 2001

^This official US pressing just dropped this month and as a massive fan I jumped on this. I had the CD when this dropped in 2001 and have always hoped a proper vinyl pressing would come along.

This is pretty damn good, mind you, I have all their albums and I'd say it's my third favorite behind their self titled debut and Sunrise on the Sufferbus their highly slept on sophomore release featuring Ginger Baker on Drums.

To this day for whatever reason this band is the most slept on rock band in the world. In fact, years ago there was a fan based page called the most slept on rock band in the world so that's not even my claim. It no longer exists and I can't find mention of it anywhere now which only solidifies the claim. These guys worked with and helped shape everyone from Queens of the Stoned Age to their earlier incarnation Kyuss, to UNKLE, to Fleetwood Mac, to Scott Weiland, and on and on. And yet they remain underground, and IMHO underappreciated.

But back to the album, the good folks at Bong Load pressed this up in a way that breathes new life into this now 16 year old album. Quality pressing and I'm more than happy to pay 37 bucks (after shipping) to get records this nicely done in my hands.
