Masters of Reality - Deep in the Hole LP (Bong Load Records) 2017 RE of 2001

I still need to pick up some stuff by this band. I have to dig out that 2xCD best of mix you gave me awhile back again too. Do you have deadwax info for that LP? I'm curious if I can decode who pressed or mastered it from that...

Arckanum - Fran Marder

Arckanum's second album from 1995. If you like black metal that is raw but has some interesting atmosphere and rises above the bedroom demo level stuff, check this album out. My copy is a 2009 reissue on Debemur Morti Productions. It comes in a nice digibook package but the mastering is unfortunately squashed and overcooked. Hopefully the next reissue will take a bit more care with the mastering instead of giving it a typical loudness war job like so many metal reissues these days.

This is some quality black metal. I have their first cassette. I need to check this one out, too.

Nasum - Helvete
originally released by Relapse Records, 2003 - this pressing by Relapse, 2015

You wouldn't normally associate a grindcore album with stellar mastering, but this is an exception. Every instrument has a distinct place in the mix instead of just having everything redlined like a lot of releases in the genre do. This LP may actually beat out the CD release in terms of sound. Worth checking out for fans of the band.

Very cool. I also have their Kostogher album which is the one after Fran Marder. Same label did the reissue and the same deal with overcooked/compressed mastering. Musically it's definitely on point though. I wish a label like Dark Symphonies would do reissues of the early stuff by this band, at least the first few albums so I could hear them with good mastering.
