Very sad news, one of my favorite rock singers passed last night.

Singer Scott Weiland Dies On Tour At Age 48

Quote
NPR
Scott Weiland, the former frontman of the Stone Temple Pilots, died in Minnesota Thursday. He "passed away in his sleep while on a tour stop," according to a statement on his Facebook page.

According to the statement, Weiland died in Bloomington, Minn.; other details, such as the cause of death, were not revealed, citing his family's desire for privacy.

The Los Angeles Times reports:

"Jamie Weiland, the singer's wife, confirmed the news of his death to The Times in a brief conversation Thursday.

" 'I can't deal with this right now,' she said, sobbing. 'It's true.' "

Weiland, whose career was marked by both Grammy Awards and drug and alcohol abuse problems, was the lead singer for the Stone Temple Pilots, which had numerous hits in the 1990s, and of Velvet Revolver, a supergroup that paired him with former members of Guns N' Roses.

Weiland's hits with the Stone Temple Pilots include "Interstate Love Song," "Creep," "Plush," and "Big Empty."

I had the honor of seeing his recent tour just a year ago and I reviewed his Scot Weiland and the Wildabouts show

He seemed so fresh a year ago and I'm glad I didn't miss that opportunity.

It's really very sad, another example when the really creative ones always die young.

I won't pretend I was ever a big fan, but it always sucks to see someone die too young like this. RIP.

You know there's nothing wrong with being honest about not being a fan, there's no downvote mob here. ((giggle))

And not to put you on the spot, because I am the same way with "not being a fan" on plenty of fan-worthy music, but if you heard the right songs I think you could be swayed.

For instance, here's one of my favorite tracks off his solo albums from a while ago...

Scott Weiland - Lady, Your Roof Brings Me Down

^I'm betting you'd like that.

^That track wasn't bad at all. Honestly I'm not all that familiar with the STP or Weiland solo catalog, mainly just the songs that were on soundtracks or the radio. I think one time years ago I saw their entire MTV unplugged performance. I never thought they were a bad group or anything, just never got super into them. I like some of their songs well enough during the 90s. I thought it was interesting when they moved from the heavy grunge rock type stuff to more psych/pop/glam whatever sounding tracks at one point.
