Joe Simon - Drowning in the Sea of Love Spring Records - US, 1972 Joe Simon's backed by MFSB in a Gamble & Huff production. This is a great example of early 70's Philly soul. Simon's voice is fantastic and unique, and the frequently lush production suits him well. Definitely more here than the hit the record's named after - every song's worth a listen. Reckless stores the discs separately from the covers - I really didn't want to spend the time digging, go to the counter, look over the vinyl, rinse, repeat, so I was only there 10 minutes or so. The selection looked like it was pretty well picked over, but I think it would be a decent place to grab common stuff. Caveat - I only looked in the Soul/R&B section before I moved on. Thanks for the suggestions. I couldn’t get out to Dusty Groove - just not enough time. I did stop in Reckless Records briefly, but didn’t find anything in my short visit. ^Agreed - I enjoy surprises like that. Television - Adventure Elektra - USA, 1978 Marquee Moon's the more influential album, but I really enjoy the laid back, melodic feel of Adventure. I've been on the verge of buying it from the UK a couple of times, but I just couldn't find a seller with enough other records I wanted to justify the shipping costs. All the records I've purchased new are pristine. Except the Bowie albums. They're scratched up, dust deep in the grooves - I lived with them playing constantly when I was in my teens. I think for the first year or two that I was buying records, the only artist in my collection was Bowie. I'm utterly gutted to see him go, but what a fucking exit. Most of the early releases are mastered from vinyl, so sound quality's all over the map, but for the most part it's good or at least not terribly distracting.
