Boston - Third Stage
originally released by MCA Records, 1986 - this SHM CD by Geffen Records Japan, 2011
So I've been stuck on this 80s kick lately it seems. I love this Boston album. It doesn't quite reach the heights of their first album, but it does stand up well on its own despite the fact it can come off as a little cheesy. This SHM CD is well mastered, too. Not overly com

Jethro Tull - Heavy Horses (40th Anniversary Steven Wilson Remix)
originally released by Chrysalis Records, 1978 - this pressing by Chrysalis / Parlophone, 2018
Beautifully done anniversary pressing of this classic Tull album. Steven Wilson restrains himself on the remix, and it sounds fantastic. Lots of dynamics compared to the original, and to my ears a big improvement on the old mix.

Tomb Mold - Manor of Infinite Forms LP
I dig what these guys are doing. I agree about the vocals. After 30+ years of hearing extreme metal, they can kind of get on my nerves, but this band handles them well.

Chronicles Volume One
Bob Dylan, 2004
Bob Dylan is well known for his writing, even winning a Nobel Prize in literature a few years ago. In my eyes, this was a well deserved honor for the man. Not one single songwriter can compete. In this autobiography, he shows that talent extends beyond the boundaries of song into the world of actual books.

Chicago - 17
originally released by Warner Bros. Records, 1984 - this CD by Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab, 2011
I just love Chicago. All the way from some of the crazy guitar freakouts on their very first LP up through the current lineup's syrupy ballads. This album here is one of the ones that there was just no escape from back in the mid 80s. It's packed full of the sappy love son

Gillan - Future Shock
original release by Virgin, 1981 - this CD by Demon Music Group, 2015
You know, I really like the Gillan era of Deep Purple but I've never checked out any of his other projects. Would you say this is the best Gillan album? That track sounded great.
Future Shock is my personal favorite of his solo albums. Mr. Universe and Glory Road are both a

Elektra, 2004
Here's a 2 DVD set recorded at a two day festival Phish put on in Maine in August, 2003.
Disc 1 is a PBS documentary on the show with footage of the sets the band played and some of the mayhem from the crowd. There are some bonus interviews as well. The second disc has and additional 2 1/2 hours of uncut footage of songs the band performed across the two d

One of my favorite albums from one of my favorite vocalists in the history of hard rock. Every single track is just killer. Throw this one on in the car, crank it all the way up and put the accelerator to the floor.

Grateful Dead - Wake Of The Flood
originally released by Grateful Dead Records, 1973 - this pressing by Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab, 2011
A stone cold classic from the Dead's studio catalog right here. From the opening of "Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo" to the album closing epic "Weather Report Suite," there's not a wasted moment.

Miles Davis - Live Around The World
Warner Bros. Records, 1996
This album was recorded live at some gigs that took place between '88-'89. The CD in the photo is actually from the 2015 "The Last Word" box set, but is available on its own for a pretty cheap price.
I love this period of his career. I think it's a perfect blend of the cool jazz he pioneered in the

Grateful Dead - Dave's Picks Volume 27: BSU Pavilion, Boise State University, Boise ID 9/2/83
Grateful Dead Records / Rhino Records, 2018
Early 80s Dead takes a lot of flak from fans. Sometimes it's deserved, sometimes not. This new volume of Dave's Picks is a case of the latter. This was the Dead's one and only show ever played in Idaho, and it's a good one.

^Where might one find a copy of that boot? Search results = no leads and I want this.
I picked up this copy back in '84, I think. I see on Popsike that it's been sold recently on Ebay, so probably the best bet is to keep an eye out there for a copy. Look for anything listed as "TMOQ" or "not-TMOQ" instead of "bootleg" or "unofficial.&qu

If you're not familiar with the living ball of chaos that was GG Allin, be warned now that this video is not for the faint of heart, and certainly not suitable for family viewing.

Double LP bootleg. The first disc has just the audio track from the "Feast Of Friends" movie. If you haven't seen the actual film, some of what's on here may not make much sense without the visual context.

In general what is your opinion on the 40th Anniv. remixes? For awhile the original mixes seemed to be OOP and they were all you could get, but I've held off getting these remixes so far. What do you think is the most interesting of the batch?
Overall, I like the 40th anniversary mixes. Some are just cleaned up versions of the originals, some are radically different. They

This book is an oral history of the punk scene in the US, roughly covering the years between 1980-1986. Most of the major players are present to give their thoughts and memories on the era, along with many people from smaller bands that were only known in regional scenes. Essential reading for anyone wanting to get a glimpse of the b

Chip Wickham - Shamal Wind LP
Latest album from this UK contemporary jazz artist. Unlike his last one, which had a lot of 60s flavor, this one is more of a nod to the adventurous jazz of the early 70s. It's not free jazz or anything harsh, but the sound is expanded considerably over his last one. More atmosphere, some funk, even some influences from African and Arab music.
