Jim Scott - Sailing With The Moon
Self-Released, 2000
Solo acoustic folk music in an early 70s singer-songwriter vein. Pretty decent stuff if you're into this kind of thing. It has some similarities to early Van Morrison, shortly after he had split from Them. Lyrically, it's nowhere near as cosmic, but has that same hippie "drop-out and get back to nature while staring at y

The Doors - Backstage And Dangerous: The Private Rehearsal
The Home(r) Entertainment Network, 2002
Bootleg CD of the full rehearsal for a gig The Doors played at The Aquarius Theatre in L.A., recorded on July 22, 1969.
This thing sounds fantastic since it's taken from a pro recording, and has some great performances from the whole band. Morrison was fairly sober for this, an

I've been wondering how the Impex stuff sounds. Since you speak highly of it, I'll definitely check this one out one day soon.

The Doors of the 21st Century - L.A. Woman Live
Image Entertainment, 2004
Ray Manzarek and Robbie Krieger reunited in 2002 to perform with Ian Astbury on vocals in place of Jim Morrison. They were joined by Angelo Barbera (bass) and Ty Dennis (drums) from Krieger's solo touring band. Original Doors drummer John Densmore did not participate (there are varying accounts as to why this i

The Rolling Stones - Live R Than You'll Ever Be
Lurch Records, 1969
Bootleg of a Stones show recorded in Oakland in 1969. Not bad sound quality for a recording that's almost 50 years old. There are some excellent versions of some of their best songs on here. My personal favorite is the run through "I'm Free." I like this much better than the studio version.

Creation - Creation
original release by Express, 1975 - this pressing by Klimt Records, 2012
Wild, bluesy Japanese post-psych from some of the former members of Blues Creation. This is an excellent record that sounds instantly familiar. Not as far out as some of their Japanese contemporaries, but possessing top-notch songwriting skills, these guys made several great albums that are all wo

Don Cherry / Latif Khan - Music/Sangam
Europa Records, 1982
Some cool world fusion from Don Cherry and tabla master Latif Khan. This was originally recorded in 1978, but wouldn't be released for four more years. Originals aren't terribly expensive, and there are some decent reissues to be had as well. Give this a listen and get lost in some timeless cosmic space.

T.Rex - Electric Warrior LP [2017 "Roctober" U.S. Rhino Reissue]
So everyone knows this record and probably has multiple copies on some format. Do we really need another reissue of it? In this case, the answer is yes, mainly due to how this was done. The lacquers were cut by Kevin Gray straight from the analog master tape and the record was pressed at RTI. If you do

Toys Have Powers / Deathkult999, 2017
So I'm technically not listening to this right now, but played it earlier today. This is a phenomenal album that fuses industrial, politically charged hardcore punk, and rap into a vicious mix. I just got turned on to these dudes a few weeks ago, and immediately ordered this LP from the band's website. This i

Excellent dark ambient/drone from Russia.
This edition came in a handmade wooden box with glow in the dark paint, and included a Mjölnir (Thor's hammer) pendant along with four handmade cards with photos, poetry, and credits on them. The CD is also hand painted. This edition is sold out, but regular digipaks are still availabl

Joe Bonner - The Lifesaver LP
Solo piano jazz from the mid-70s, never reissued or released on CD either. Another underrated album on the Muse label, well worth picking up.
There's so much good jazz out there that never made it onto CD. This is a perfect example. Such a great record.

Neil Young - Trans
Original release by Geffen Records, 1982 - this UK CD by Geffen Records, 1997
To say this album was not well received when originally released would be something of an understatement. The reviews were poor, and sales were abysmal. However, like most of Young's 80s output, it is well worth tracking down and deciding for yourself whether or not it's your thing.

original release by Grateful Dead Records, 1975 - this HDCD released by Rhino Records, 2004
A fairly far out and experimental album, even by the Dead's standards. This one opens with the trio of Help On The Way>Slipknot>Franklin's Tower that would become a standout in their live sets. The following track, King Solomon's Marbles goes of

originally released on VHS by Touch and Go, 1985 - this DVD by MVD, 2002
Filmed in Detroit at two separate shows in February-March 1985 and spliced with intervals of an interview with a very stoned band in bed together, this video shows why the Butthole Surfers were one of the most innovative bands of the 80s Texas punk scene. Eq

Joyful Noise Recordings, 2017
I got Psychic Temple's new album in the mail today, and enjoyed it so much I actually sat and listened to it three times back to back. Now I'm sitting in my office listening again to the FLAC download. This doesn't fit neatly into any particular genre, though there are some evident influences heard here and there. Beautiful,

Camp Cope S/T
Camp Cope's self-titled came out last year, but I discovered it a few weeks ago on Bandcamp. Camp Cope plays some pop punk-tinged indie rock with female vocals (which seems to have been blowing up for the last couple of years in some DIY/indie scenes). My favorite from this album is definitely West Side

Alan Licht - Sink The Aging Process
Stillbreeze, 1994
Experimental solo guitar noise, similar to the music of Donald Miller (Bobetomagus). There are two tracks on this album, one of them being a cover of the Minutemen's classic song Polarity stretched out to almost 20 minutes of wild feedback and dissonant, minimalist drones.
You can find this LP fairly cheap these days. It's

Judas Priest - Electric Eye
Columbia Music Video, 2003
The centerpiece of this DVD is a concert recorded on the Fuel For Life tour (1986) in Dallas, TX. This show was previously released on VHS and Laserdisc as Priest...Live! in 1987. The video includes four tracks that were left off the album of the same name. It's a good show, a little dated maybe, but still a lot of fun to watch.

I was so bummed out the day this was released. The only store near me carrying the deluxe 2-disc edition had sold their only copy by the time I got there. Two weeks later, I found out it was my wife that had bought it when she gave this to me as an anniversary present.

Toxic Shock, 1988
Long before some marketing douchebag made up the term "grunge", there were already a bunch of great bands in the Pacific Northwest making killer albums. Skin Yard was one of them.
