^No doubt.

This 'kend...

J Dilla - Donuts 7" Box Set (Stones Throw) 2013

^Thoroughly reinvigorated by this re-release, admittedly I was tired of donuts, I played it out too many times a while back and got donut fatigue. Initially, when I heard this was coming out I didn't think it was worthy of the 7" box treatment. But unlike the other recent Hip Hop 7" box set releases, this one really had nothing to do with packaging, I think it was more about the quality of sound and rich bass that made this release special. These songs are already so short and abstract, it seemed like basically the perfect format for this album. Now with these 45s you can randomly flip thru the tracks instead of going with the original album track order, so incidently I had a lot of fun this weekend with these sevens.

...and whilst sorting my Old School collection I had to drop the needle on these...

MC Shy D - Rapp Will Never Die 12" (4 Sight Records) 1985

^1985 is a little late for the having the extra P at the end of the word Rap, but back then I guess it was still forgivable. This was the beginning of me collecting this guy, his early signature Miami Bass in full effect.

Various ‎- NY-Philly Rap Connection LP (Word Up!) 1987

^Besides some slammin' Roxanne Shante tracks, this one has a few real unique early independent MCs and producers as well. Two very funny HH tracks about an annoying little sister and getting the munchies by MC Tommy T along with some sleepers by a few more unknowns. I got this many years ago and I have babied it since day one, so it's mint!

Various - Old School DJ Throwdown LP (Ol' Skool Flava) 1997

^Like a lot of Ol' Skool Flava comps this one is give and take. Mostly give. The quality on a few of those sounds like someone playing an old beat up cassette tape through a grade school's PA system. Still, the artists and songs on this are pure throw back vibes and damn funky. This one is well worth seeking for the few good tracks by Charlie Chase and Davy DMX. Lots of huge Old School names on this, so yeah, I had no choice, I had to own this.

Geto Boys - Geto Boys LP (Def American Recordings) 1990

^Classic. My copy is so beat up, but I can't complain cuz I've never seen this record in decent shape, seems like its always "loved to death" by the previous owner playing it a million times. Who's that dude in the lower right hand Brady Bunch square? He looks vaguely familiar. grinning smiley
