Crazy that you know that UK tune.

They were from the town I grew up in.

Recently...

Smoothe Da Hustler - Once Upon A Time In America LP (Profile Records) 1996

^Finally got this LP that's been on my hit list for a long minute. It's pretty good, but not as great as I thought it'd be based on what I heard. The stand out tracks seem to be much more accessible on the 12" singles I already had, Hustlin' and Broken Language. Still it's pretty dope and I'm glad to have it.

Tribe Called Quest - Jam EP (Jive) 1997

^Tribe completionism here, but hey, why not? This Import EP is worth it for the hard to obtain Dilla production on Mardi Gras At Midnight. There's another bonus track but it's not as good as that. This is pretty cool for a UK Hip hop pressing, a lot of times those things suck, but this one is ayite.

YZ - Sons of the Father LP (Tuff City) 1990

^I've always liked this dude. Over all he's pretty slept on and it's a shame cuz I think he's got some dope beats and real as it gets rhymes. Besides the obvious classic tracks on this it's a pretty strong LP, definitely worth seeking.

MC Craig G - Transformer 12" (Pop Art) 1985

^FINALLY. Man I've been hunting this down for a long time and it came about at the right price so I jumped on it. This is a electro rap about the Transformers, and to my ears it's the dopest music about the Hasbro toy ever made. The rap is not nearly as corny as you think it would be. This is going on an electro mix I'm making. I'm glad I stalled out on that mix cuz this came along and I think it'll round it off nicely.

Love Bug Star-Ski & The Harlem World Crew - Positive Life 12" (Tayster) 1981

^NICE! Another one I been looking for and found this OG at a nice price in nice shape. I've always liked the Harlem World Crew old school shit, but what really makes this single different from other old school Hip Hop singles is the constantly changing beat and rhymes on this. It's got the signature "way too long" old school track thing going on except it doesn't go on and on forever with the same loop and repeating "Hibbity hibbity" "Thow ya hands in the air" type ish. It flips it around a lot, great bass breakdowns, great vocal changes, great everything. By the time the song finally ends you want more. Now that's the mark of a good old school song... when it goes on for 8+ minutes, and you wish it would go longer.

Various - Wild Style OST LP (Animal Records) 1983

^ABOUT DAMN TIME. I have 2 reissues of this as well, been looking for the OG, found it! MINE! I listened to this again last night from the very beginning to the very end and it sounds absolutely fantastic. So many great moments on this soundtrack. File under the most essential old school hip Hop soundtrack ever?

Interesting record-nerd tidbit, if you look kind of close on this pic, towards the top of the cover was a piece of masking tape labeled "Wild Style" (As if that would somehow make the cover easier to read?) that was covering a portion of the artwork since 1983. After being stuck to it that long it had officially adhered to the cover. So I busted out a little Goo Gone and squirted it on the tape, in about 30 seconds it peeled away like the wax paper on a stick of butter. It left a little bit of the hard, dried-on adhesive but most of it came off without a hitch. Plus it shined up this OG relic making it look as good as it should look. It's only like 4 bucks, so buy that shit, I highly recommend it. It works on removing all kinds of stickers, price tags, kids crayons, and even some marker and pen come right off albums. It doesn't leave any trace of the cleaner either, just a nice pleasant orange peel smell.

and now for my next testimonial...

Bacon Bowl!

Where's my bacon bowl bitches! I'll do a testimonial on that every day for a week if I get one. Someones clearly giving em out to people, where's mine?

^^The Lovebug Starski joitn has one of the best baselines from that era. One of my favorite disco rap joints!

Finally copped an affordable copy of this late effort from the crash crew which makes for one of their best releases.

Otherwise some random stuff:
