Recently...

The 45 King - The Cat Jams LP (Tuff City) 2005

^Bought this new back in 05. I remember listening to it once and shelving it. Found it again recently and figured it deserved more love cuz it's the 45 king. Not to mention it had some great rappers on it, Chill Rob and others of that era. Over all it's kinda ehh, but whatever it's 45 king so I'm glad to have it. Some of the highlights on this record are actually his instrumentals more so than the tracks with rappers on it.

Jungle Brothers - Straight Out The Jungle LP (Warklock) 2004 RE of 1988 OG

^A little bit older but a solid 2LP gatefold repressing from Traffic Entertainment. Nice and loud, nice and heavy vinyl, uber classic Native Tounges, what more needs to be said?

People Under the Stairs - Stepfather LP (Tres Records) 2006

^This was about the last album by these guys that I really rated. I bought every overpriced, over packaged limited to death album from these guys after this and they kinda seemed rehashed to my ears. For me with these guys it's always been about their OM years, but this one was pretty good too. The highlight of this one was "Letter to the OldSchool" What a cool ass idea that was...

^Checkit.

Casual - Fear Itself LP (Jive) 1994

^This is a great album, seemingly slept on. I like this way better than most of his cohort Del's albums.

Pete Rock - NY's Finest LP (Nature Sounds) 2008

^Busted this out recently since I happened to notice that Fat Beats reissued this recently and included a bonus 7" with it. I hadn't heard it in years so seeing it reissued made me take it off the shelves and give it a relisten. Not really sure why Fat Beats reissued this, it's not that great. There's a couple of decent tracks but hardly enough to warrant a reissue IMO.

Black Milk - Popular Demand LP (Fat Beats Records) 2007

^This guy's been prolific as hell since this debut. It was impressive as he produced, rapped, mixed everything, etc, basically besides a few guest MCs, he was in full control of the output. Pretty impressive that Fat Beats snatched him away from his previous small time label and gave him that kind of control and that it turned out so good. I bought a few after this, Tronic, which sucked, Fat Ray and Black Milk was wack too, so I kinda just stopped listening after that. I wonder how his newer stuff was after that, because I see he just dropped one in December of last year.

Sixtoo - Duration LP (Audio Boxcutter) 2002 RE

^I'm kind of a Sixtoo completionist, his leffield drumming and production is nice and moody and chill so I had to get this one. This feels almost like a live set, there's something very raw sounding about it. It's non stop on each side, so 2 songs that are just beat changes, so it feels almost like a live mix set in a way. It's really good. I flipped it over and found the handwritten 2/1000 on it and I felt pretty cool about that. Damn that's gotta be the lowest number I got, right?

^Psych!!! After looking it up on Discogs, turns out this is a second edition reissue and every single one of them has 2/1000 written on them. I thought for sure it was hand penned, but that's just his evil trick to make me feel more special than I really am. Apparently the first reissue all have 1/1000 written on them, and only the first 10 made are rare and have an alternate cover all together. Despite it not being all that rare, it's dope, and that's good enough for me.

Concise Kilgore - In The Kitchen 12" (Netweight Records) 2002

^Ever buy a record even when it only has one good song on it? Sure, it's a single, sometimes that one good song makes it worth the price. Well this one has only one part of one song that's good the rest is garbage, but for me that 2:00 clip (the second half of the track "Sandiego Zoo" ) made this whole record worth buying. I don't know how or when I'm gonna mix that beat into a mix, but I plan on doing it for sure cuz it's a dope ass beat.

Civilized Savages/ Armageddon Bodies - New Ruff Flava 12" (Armageddon Records) 1994

^This rare underground joint also only has one good song on it. I take that back it has 3 good songs on it but the first two are absolutely raped by the censorship editor of that track to the point where they are no longer enjoyable.

Like we've all heard the creative ways to turn Fuck into something else, from plain old beeps, to gunshot noises, reversing the vocals to cuff, or muting the vocal "fuck" and leaving the beat as is. Well these guys must have not thought it out very well, cuz the censorship guy just mutes out the ENTIRE SONG beat and all for every curse.

These are dope songs, but when you are listening to a dope song and it blanks out completely every 2-8 seconds the harshness of that sound makes it totally intolerable. The entire rhythm of the song is destroyed because they didn't think ahead and when it was time to put it on the radio they opted for the budget cut, and hey, way to fuck up a good thing.

Thankfully the very last song is super dope, unedited, they had enough sense to just let us hear the swearing on at least one of the songs. This one good song cost me a pretty penny and I'm too embarrassed to say how much it was, but let's just say it was worth it to me.

Diamond D - The Diam Piece LP (Dymond Mine Records) 2014

^Finally! I missed out on the first run of these, apparently they went fast and they were instantly sold out everywhere. Fat Beats had a "email me when this get's restocked" button and I heard it was happening, so when that email came, I jumped on it. Here it is. It's dope. This is the Diamond D sound that you know and love. No, it's no Stunts and Blunts, but nothing like that would make it nowadays, it had to be a wiser more-modern Diamond with plenty of tricks up his sleeve. I'd say it's easily one of the best records from 2014 and I just got it last week. I'm about to give it my third listen when I get home from work, it's a good ass album. Not a 9 but a solid 8.

Bought these three Malcolm McLaren records yesterday for $3. Only one is really a hip-hop record (the other two are apparently synth pop interpretations of the operas Carmen and Madama Butterfly.) but goddamn what a record it is! Malcolm's backed on this one by the world class supreme team.

If I remember correctly, I got familiar with this one listening to funkmaster flex.

I had a chance to listen to PRhyme and The Diam piece and I like them both..refreshing actually. I was suprised a tad bit with PRhyme. Preemo gave the isteners something different which I'll admit ,it took me a few times to get into. I believe that at different stages of your career you should venture into different territory and try new things. The end result was actually cool. I finally got the chance to listen to j cole Forestst hills Drive in its entirety and while solid...I got bored halfway thru. I think that is my problem with J cole. He is not dynamic enough for me. I love that he did no promotion for the album and that his subject matter covers a variety of topics but he failed to take me to that place (all of us on this forum know what I'm talking about)Still, with all of that being said,he is still one to watch. On standby is some album colab with bishop nehru and Mf doom...I haven't listened to it yet but its gotten horrible reviews...that could be why it's still sitting there along with Lil Wayne's(I know his name is mud on tthe forum lol) sorry for the wait (or whatever it is)...
