Bought these three Malcolm McLaren records yesterday for $3. Only one is really a hip-hop record (the other two are apparently synth pop interpretations of the operas Carmen and Madama Butterfly.) but goddamn what a record it is! Malcolm's backed on this one by the world class supreme team.

If I remember correctly, I got familiar with this one listening to funkmaster flex.

Forget to mention that the hip hop record in question is "Buffalo Gals" (in case you didn't know!)

Classic track. I think he died a while ago, yep back in 2010, but he was definitely a big player in the early Hip Hop years. I don't have any of those albums yet, just a few random singles. I hate to put you on the spot but how are they altogether, are they all good? Which one is the best? Etc.

So when I posted initially, I hadn't listened to them yet, but Buffalo Gals is a classic- it's a little goofy (like a lot of classic hip hop), but it's solid, fun party music. Now that I've listened to em, I'd recommend all three. The opera ones are kinda synth-pop backing tracks mixed with spoken word, pop vocals, and operatic singing. It's a weird combination, for sure, but I'm both a fan of Opera and a fan of weird shit, so I really enjoyed both of them, Madama Butterfly in particular (Puccini is the shit).

^^^ Good lookin' out, Rchecka - going through it now. Was always a fan of Young MC's 'Non Stop' (noticed he spun that in his mix). He shoulda added this forgotten-about joint from '96 (in that mix):

Ras-T - 'Nine Six Million Dollar Man'

or, "iLL Nig'
