^I got another batch of punk 7" records recently, seems like I can only stray from punk for a few days before jonesing for the stuff. I guess I got a hankering for teen angst. Anyways, this one and the next few pictured are the good ones in the batch.
Love Child - Know It's Alright 7" (Trash Flow Records) 1989
^One of the sweeter sounding punk sevens, very tight drums.
Big Chief - Get Down And Double Check 7" (Get Hip Recordings) 1990
^This one reminds me of a punk Rolling Stones in a way, almost sounds like Claw Hammer.
Chixdiggit - Best Hung Carrot In The Fridge 7" (Lance Rock Records) 1995
^The only good song on this is the punk cover version of George Michael's Faith. One of these days I'm gonna do a punk cover versions song mix once I get enough of them to do it.
The Creamers – Bob Kringle 7" (Sympathy For The Record Industry) 1990
^One of the only Christmas records I'd ever buy. Christmas angst, being such a scrooge I can absolutely relate to this ditty.
Da Willys - A Case Of Da Willys 7" (Baylor Records) 1989
^Starting to get into these guys, a slept on NYC band from the late 80s.
Alice Donut / Da Willys – Love Rollercoaster / Egg 7" (Rave) 1991
^Best one in the batch, this one I got as a freebee from my punk guy. He knows so much more about punk than I do and he just throws in an occasional freebee of a cheap one that he thinks I "should have" Sadly his freebee outranks my picks, but that's why I shop with him.
Droids Attack / Imperal Battlesnake - Thee 1987 EP (Round 13 Records) Unknown Year
^Picked up this obscure (not on discogs) 80s metal split EP. The Droids Attack side is really the only side I like, Imperial Battlesnake sounds a bit too much like cock rock to my ears.
X - More Fun in the New World LP (Elektra) 1983
^I loved X's "Los Angeles" so much I took a stab on their later album, "More Fun..." In the 2 years it took between these two albums they grew substantially. While LA was raw and hard this was raw and smart with much more advanced lyrics and beats. I'm gonna keep digging their shit for sure.
Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings – Soul Time! (Daptone Records) 2011
^Now onto the soul funk diva. I've slept on this for a while now, I thought it was time to pay it a visit again. I really never get sick of Sharon's powerful vocal chords, she's one tough lady not to be fucked with.
Isaac Hayes - Hot Buttered Soul LP (Enterprise) 1969
^Classic Soul. The whole first side is so impressive. The second side is great, but something about the way Isaac laid out side 1 sticks with me a lot longer.
Messengers Incorporated – Soulful Proclamation LP (Jazzman) 2013 RE of 1970 OG
^Soulful\Funky\Blues on this nice Jazzman reissue of this obscure Midwest band. The funk is great, but there's something really special about the straight Blues joints on this that I like even better. They do a funky cover version of the Beatle's "Eleanor Rigby" that'll knock your socks off.
Magic In Threes - Summertime Strut \ Magic Mark in Tha Summer 7" (G.E.D. Soul) 2012
^A fantastic B-Day gift from my friend Jay Brown. I don't think I've heard a bad record on GED Soul yet and this one is near the top of that heap. Nothing like the laid back vibes on this to get me missing Summertime already. This is a great pickup that I might never have other wised bought is much appreciated.
Thenewno2 - The Fear of Missing Out LP (HOT Records Limited) 2012
^Dhani Harrison (George Harrison's son of the Beatles) is a damn great guitarist. I saw him on Guitar Sessions (
see above) and knew from that show I had to own this album. Turns out it's much more pop than I thought it'd be. It kind of reminds me of the Gorrillaz in a way, very thick production, laced with all kinds of power artist guests (like RZA for example). Truthfully, after 3 listens I am finally starting to like this. It was a little too poppy at first for my tastes but it's really good and I can't deny the songs that I love. RZA's guest track sucks, but the rest of this album is really solid. I'm sure that the upcoming one will be even better.
Meat Beat Manifesto - Armed Audio Warefare LP (Wax Trax) 1990
^Some of the oldest, rawest, hardest hitting industrial beats reside on this collection of late 80s bangers from Jack Dangers between these grooves. Not for the faint of heart, the distortion is at times overwhelmingly loud on this but I love it. I hear nothing but sweet audio dissonance when others might hear screeching mic feedback. This is the kind of stuff that drives my wife crazy when I blast it because it's so heavy it penetrates the sound treatment I did to my studio. It finds a way, just like "life" did in Jurassic Park.
Adrian Younge Presents Venice Dawn – Something About April LP (Wax Poetics) 2011
^Another thoughtful B-Day pick from JB. I'm glad you got it when you did man, cuz I was just about to buy this as it'd been on my radar for a while and metrowax had a copy on hold for me. I really like this album a lot. It's a little rough around the edges as far as soul albums go but the lover's soul sound is really irresistable on this. Adrian was seemingly honing his soul-craft on this and the results are a raw but unforgettable sweet soul debut.
The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground LP (MGM) 1969
^Still mourning the loss of one of the best storytellers I've ever heard, Lou Reed. This album helps me deal with it the best way I can but remembering some of his remarkable poetry.

This is such an amazing album, personally I like it so much better than their iconic debut and I'll always bust this out when I'm in the mood for great classic rock.
