Inner City Beat ! Detective themes , spy music , and imaginary thrillers 2 lp . This album is so dope !! Basically like the title says , it's theme music pulled from British sound libraries . Multi genre styling with many different cultural influences . Not to mention the fact that it's loaded with drum breaks , and just a ton of funky drums in general . Also comes with a detective story graphic novel and digital download . A little pricey at $30.00 , but worth every penny .

Recently…

Meat Beat Manifesto – Subliminal Sandwich LP (Nothing) 1996

^One of my favorite MBM albums, aptly titled. Everything on this beat-driven industrial techno album on Trent Rez’s Nothing label is eerily subliminal and somehow simultaneously straight shooting.

Thinking Fellers Union Local 282 – Everyday 7” (Amarillo Records) 1995

^Bought this for the “Selections From A Fistful Of Dollars” obviously, I know nothing of the band but I figured that cover song was destined to be really cool. It turned out to be a good cover after all. Authentic spaghetti western music all the way through.

Dag – Righteous LP (Columbia) 1994

^Back in the college years I had this on CD. It was one of my first modern funk CDs so when I saw it locally on wax I was all over it. Kinda like Prince styled vocal funk in a way but in hindsight it’s not nearly as good as Prince. With the exception of a few good songs this is just par.

Nirvana – Heart Shaped Box 12” (Geffen) 1993

^Bought this Nirvana 12” for the b side even though the A side is infinitely better. Another hindsight moment. The bonus b side track is just crazy weird even for Kurt Cobain. Totally unlistenable.

Up, Bustle and Out – Urban Evacuation LP (Unique) 2003

^These guys are so eclectic and well versed I had to buy this album. Post Ninja Tune Up Bustle and Out and this one moves away from the Latin stylings of their previous 2 albums and dives headlong into dub and reggae styled trip hop. Really a great album given the abrupt diversion.

Blue Cheer – Vincebus Eruptum LP (Phillips) 1967

^Classic pysch that should be in every psych rock head’s crates. It’s really great, fairly well known and this should have been way more money but luckily for me my local rock guy slips up sometimes.

Potshot – Til I die LP (Asian Man Records) 1999

^Japanese Punk! Man this is just as good as punk ska gets and I can’t understand a word that they are saying. It doesn’t matter because I can’t understand a lot of English punk singers either and many of them aren’t even half as tight as these guys are. Took a chance on this and I’m glad I did because this is now one of my favorite punk albums.

Hollywood Brats – Hollywood Brats LP (Cherry Red) 1980

^Speaking of dope ass punk WOW! Never heard of these guys either but I saw the cover and jumped on the 10$ price tag. Another good risk because it’s DAMN fine punk music. Clearly influenced by the New York Dolls this group of female and male singers, guitarists, bass players, a piano player and a drummer all in perfect sync. Just the right amount of angst for it to be real punk but not overdone, this one sounds 10 years ahead of its time.

Crimpshrine – Duct Tape Soup LP (Lookout!) 1992

^Crimpshine! Cool name, great band, and a singer who doesn’t even try to be on key. Actually he does but it’s so bad I give him credit for sounding like he’s not trying. Raging guitar riffs, lots of abrupt rhythm changes and raw energy on this. Besides being a great album, as a bonus it came with the shown booklet of some of the other good punk on the label, so I got a nice reference book as well.

Various – The Akron Collection LP (Stiff Records) 1978

^Nice and cheap and dope regional garage rock\pre-punk compilation. Super cheap, super dope underground rock from Akron Ohio, the tire capitol of the world. Some exceptional tracks on this from the Waitresses make this comp well worth the few bucks.

Various - It’s Another Iowa Compilation (Southeast Records) 1988

^Another Iowa comp! I got the first one, so I had to get this one which doesn’t disappoint. I personally think there’s something very appealing about regional punk comps. They are a great way to hone in on an otherwise unknown scene of similar underground artists.

Die Kreuzen – Gone Away 7” (Touch and Go) 1989

^One of my many recent punk 7” records I got from my favorite Discogs punk seller. I actually have so much confidence in his punk music selections that I gave him 75$ and told him to use it to pick me out some really great punk 7s. I NEVER EVER DO THAT. But I’ve been corresponding with him, bullshitting with him, trying to talk him into joining here and bringing that unuique missing knowledge to our table.

Eventually if I ask him enough times I’ll wear him down, but like the old saying goes, “you can lead a horse to water, but often that horse is too busy to drink, so it’ll just lurk instead.” I think that’s how it goes.

beating dead horse

But anyway, I trust him that much to pick out a few punk selections that I don’t know jack about, that I’d otherwise be in the dark about and do a good job finding shit I like. Sure enough, he did good, and picked out some real joints like this Die Kreuzen.

I’m not gonna get into each single I bought from him, I’ll spare you all the long individual disc breakdowns. So the next part will be just record porn.

Various - Parkland Pride 7” EP (Meat Records) (unknown year)

^…I will add though that his song (He’s a member of Alcoholics Unanimous) is one of the best tracks on this EP though.

God - Rockin' Marky 7” (Sympathy for the Record Industry) 1989

^DOPE.

Hell Cows – G Spot Crush 7” (Black Label Records) 1987

^Again, dope.

Cruel – Candle On the Water 7” (Not on Label) 1987

^Nice, recorded in Kenosha! It’s Wiscompton Ponk!!!

Rancid Vat – No Royalties 7” (Al Records) 1990

^Drunken cover songs live, can’t go wrong with that!

The Nights and Days – The Garbage Can 7” (Regal Select Records) 1988

^One of my favs from this batch!

Heretics – Search and Destroy 7” (Get Hip Recordings) 1988

Modern Vending – Kendel 7” (Ajax Records) 1989

^Another favorite with a great name.

Derelicts – Misery Maker 7” (Sub Pop) 1990

^Cheap find and really great! Kind of a no brainer since it’s on Sub Pop.

Orange Midnight - Spider on my Back 7” (Noiseville) 1989 and The Mystery Band – Tasting the Smell of Light 7” (Sympathy for the Record Industry) 1989

^Both very good sevens.

Halo of Flies – Human Fly 7” (Power-Fist Record Company) 1991

^Super heavy dope punk.

Antiseen – Conquers the North 7” (TPOS) 1990

^Great radio performance of this Southern Punk band.

Jesters of Chaos - Jesters of Chaos 7” (Horton/Reflex) 1988

^Not only good but loaded with inserts stickers and record nerd extras.

Various - Dope-Guns-‘N-Fucking In The Streets Vol 3, 7 and 1 7” EP (Subfetamine\Amphetamine) 1989,91 and 90

^Raw as ever and recorded right in the crowds of live shows. Some of these bootleg recordings you can hear people bullshitting in the audience. This is truly a crowd eyed view perspective of these monster bands. Even Nirvana does Heart Shaped Box on this and you can hear people talking almost over the music. While that may sound like it's a bad thing, in this case it’s actually a very good thing.

These are just a few of the 7s I got from my Punk dude. If you are reading this man, thanks for dropping these well thought out picks on me.

^^ @Jaybrown - That Inner City Beat Record looks dope. I might have to jump on that. Have you ever heard Lesiman? The comp lp is pricey. But his stuff is on itunes. Primo

^ @Rchecka - Awesome selection. I have to step my punk game up.
