Last night...

Arctic Monkeys - Brainstorm 10" EP (Domino) 2007

^Not feeling their name, but these guys really cook. Good indie rock out of the UK, nice, fast and heavy guitar. Kind of reminds me of a British Rival Sons a little bit.

Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots LP and At War With The Mystics LP (Warner Bros) 2002 and 2006

^My new favorite band. Seems like every album I have ever heard from these guys they give 110 percent. It's always different, the band is so damn tight. I'm definitely guilty of sleeping on these guys for years but I woke up and now I'll always be checking for their albums. One thing I really like about em is every record they drop cators to vinyl philes with the fat wax and loud pressings. As much as I love Erikah Badu, I don't care what she says about em, these guys are good peoples.

Gary Numan - The Pleasure Principle LP (Beggars Banquet) 1979

^Uptownkid got me into this believe it or not. I shoulda known about this for years but only just discovered how cool it was. Great synthpop, great music, well worth copping this.

Sylvia & Ralfi Pagan - Soul Je T'Aime 7" (Vibration Records) 1973 and Koudede - Guitars From Agadez Vol 5 7" (Sublime Frequencies) 2012

^2 7's I just picked up, the one on the left sounds like it belongs in a 70s porno, cool as hell! HEADS UP TEACHERS. The one on the right is absolutely amazing, I was really blown away by the sound of that new pic cover 7". Seems that new 45s are definitely worth getting, sometimes I don't buy these simply because their new, but this is from a long string of great 2012-2011 singles worth owning. Lots of good record companies are really stepping up the quality of their 45s.

OST - Brewster McCloud LP (MGM) 1970

^Another oddball soundtrack for my collection, so many great vocal bits are on this one. The first track has a sample on it that belongs on a Hip Hop production that hasn't been produced yet.

Hypnotic Brass Ensemble - Fire 12" (Honest Jon's Records) 2012

^Fire is right! I have the album, but I'll buy anything with their name on it ESPECIALLY if it's got a Mr Scruff remix. Dude made the nicest bass heavy funky remix of the OG without detracting from the original at all. SO FONKY!

Dennis Coffey and the Detroit Guitar Band- Evolution LP (Sussex) 1971

^One of those cheapo must haves that should be in everyones crate because it is SO on point. Loaded with breaks, and his cover of Led Zep's Whole Lotta Love is out of this world. I got a nice copy finally!

Sun Ra - Hours After LP (1989) Black Saint

^I never get tired of this guy. I think I have well over 30 of his albums and I picked this up locally from a shop for 10 bones. This late period Sun Ra session is thick and very free form Jazz. After his typical fucking around on the synth song with the first song, song 2 comes along and shows a soft, rich, quiet vibe with haunting moog keys dipping in and out of the mix. Mesmerizing.
