Got me an Amazon gift cert for Christmas...

So I'm thinking of buying this guy Machinedrum, I really dig this.

Trying to get a little deeper into modern Drum and Bass\Jungle and this guy has been making big moves for a long minute.

Gas - Nah Und Fern 4xCD Boxset

Not sure where this fits, but going to put it here for now. This is midway between ambient and techno, with looped string samples and synths creating a very dark, murky sound, but underneath there is a steady 4/4 kick drum at a low/moderate bpm. These albums were originally released on the now defunct Mille Plateaux label, which was a heavy hitter in the late 90s/very early 2000s experimental electronic scene. This box was put out through Kompakt, which was co-founded by the guy behind the Gas project, Wolfgang Voigt. I loved a lot of the early Kompakt 12''s and albums at the time but over the last several years haven't followed the label too closely. They seemed to go in a more mainstream-friendly direction over time that didn't hold my interest as well as the old stuff.

New Order - Music Complete 2xLP

I held off buying this for awhile because reviews seemed to be very mixed. I liked some of the singles from the album and some recent live footage online that featured some of these songs but I avoided listening to the whole thing because I was certain I would be disappointed with it. I finally got the album a few days when my SO bought it for me as a gift.

So far I've listened to the album twice, and I'm not really disappointed with it at all. This is a good album, with good songs, and I enjoy listening to it. Is it the band's best record or something that is going to blow your mind? No way.

If you are a New Order fan, I'd recommend giving this a shot. I like it more than the band's last few albums, even if Peter Hook isn't playing bass in the group anymore.

Detroit Escalator Co. - Soundtrack [313] CD

Not only one of my favorite Detroit techno albums, but one of the greatest ambient techno albums ever made, as well produced as anything out there IMHO. Keeps it short and sweet too. I like the producer's other work also, but this is the real masterpiece right here. This is one of those pricey Japanese mini-LP CD things I picked up a few years ago. Not sure how widely available this album is anymore, but I remember it being a chore to find.
