These guys are sometimes referred to as shoegaze which actually sorta meant something worthwhile back in 2003.

^Now that's a quotable. Great review Boombat! Definitely interesting stuff.

Wasn't Shoegaze was over by the early 90s?
Or am I missing your point?

I think he meant to say that "shoegaze" as a term is thrown around way too much these days and the current crop of shoegaze-inspired groups aren't that good. Or at least that was how I interpreted it.

Ah right. Thanks.
I wasn't aware the term had resurfaced.
Either way, it sounds like the "current crop" aren't worth investigating.

^There has been a pretty big "shoegaze" and related type stuff revival over the last 10-15 years. I'm not going to say all those groups are bad, but very few have impressed me.

Here are a couple that I really liked:

Raveonettes: observator (best thing the band has ever done IMHO)

Fields: everything last winter (band broke up before they could make a follow up)

Now, these aren't strictly shoegaze records in the purist sense but the shoegaze influence is certainly there.

As an example of the stuff that doesn't impress me, I saw the band DIIV open for Ride on their recent tour, and thought they came off as amateurs with no real memorable songs.
