Happy Mondays - Pills 'N Thrills and Bellyaches LP

The best album from this band IMHO, and IIRC their most popular. This album has actually held up pretty well over time. These guys were once described to me as "Imagine if The Fall were a dance band" and I think that's somewhat accurate. This was a limited RSD reissue done by Rhino. Nice pressing by MPO in France. Yellow vinyl if you care, sounds great.

^Ah yes, that brings me back to High School. I had that on cassette, bought it for "Step On". I think I saw that video back in the day and bought the tape from there.

A few years later I got into Black Grape, who Mark Berry of Happy Mondays helped form. If you like HM you will probably like Black Grape.

You may notice the similarities between HM and BG on this song for example...

I have both Black Grape albums on CD, they are great. And now I don't have anything by the Happy Mondays. It's good to know that's a good pressing, I need some throwback tunage.

^Yeah, I've heard of Black Grape, but never really listened to them. There is a documentary about Shaun Ryder online that talks about how he went through a whole lot of legal trouble for years, wasn't allowed to record or play music, etc. due to having a disagreement with his management and firing them around the time Black Grape was popular.

I personally think "Bummed" is their best. With the unique production from Martin Hannett and Shaun's lyrical genius probably at its peak.

^I like "Bummed" quite a bit too. I just like "Pills" more and tend to reach for that one a lot more often when I want to hear the Mondays. Hannett was a great producer but I think his style fit better with other groups.
