^I'm sure everyone with a large collection ends up selling some of it off eventually.

I had a small collection of records in the 90s, maybe a couple hundred records that I had to get rid of at one point. I wish I still had some of those.

Flight cases sound like a good storage strategy.

@TheHipHopRecords. Thanks for adding your voice here, that just goes to show how unique the experience is. To some degree or another I think a lot of people have gone thru culling periods.

Quite honestly I'm long overdue for a culling of my own. I sell the stuff I think has at least some value that I genuinely dislike even after multiple forced listens on Discogs. But you know how that goes, if you don't want it....

I may just have to do a big old schwag donation to my local shop one of these days, or maybe I can get 3 or 5 great records in trade with 100 that shoulda gone out a long time ago.

As for breaking up the family like that (Leaving some records here and some there) I couldn't even comprehend that. For me my collection belongs in one place, at my fingertips as needed. That said, all eggs in one basket = fire is my worst nightmare, but I don't even wanna think about worst case scenario, bad karma.

I cull for space, and I cull because I don't like flipping past something cringeworthy that's touching an otherwise good record. It's a buzz kill, and records are too damn big to keep around when they are the opposite of cool.

A good collection to me is about quality music pound for pound not volume of records. I've seen collections from people who just collect any old discarded garage sale crap. And then it's piled all over the place randomly without order. "Try to find a good record in that dust ball cat pee smelling pile over there." That's not a collection, that's an accumulation.

If that was my shit my ADD would have me culling for weeks and organizing, cuz like I said, I want to know where it is at a moments notice.

Anyways, ranting there, nuff said. DJ

PS - I don't use the word cull enough and it is a very good word. I'm going to try to work that word in at least once a day.

Agree on all points. Sometimes a record cover just looks cool, and for me, I have an idea in my head for maximum price on a "blind-buy", if the record is priced right it'll get thrown in with the rest. Might be cool to sample, or even just as a listening piece, I do both.
