White label Japanese promo pressing from 1973 of The Doors debut album.

This is technically the third Japanese pressing of this record, but the first that was done after the Warner-Elektra merger in 1970 and the name change to Warner Communications that occurred in 1972. These albums were repressed with the new label logo, and promos were distributed to announce the arrival of the new company brand.

The sound here is fantastic. My only (very minor) complaint is that at times the bottom end was mastered slightly heavy, and can be overpowering without a bit of tweaking to the output levels on my system. Other than that, this beats out the original Japanese pressing by a long shot to my ears.

On a side note, I don't intend to spam this thread with every single pressing of each LP or 7". I just want to share the most interesting ones. If anyone gets sick of seeing them, just let me know.

This 2CD set of The Doors second album was put out in 2017 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of its release. The first disc has the original stereo mix, while the second has the original mono mix, both remastered by Bruce Botnick. The packaging is very nice, with a double-sleeve digipak, an essay by Botnick on the remastering process, and a booklet with the lyrics, some rare photos, and a nice essay from David Fricke.

I need to get this one eventually. Probably my favorite studio album from them. I was able to grab the Mono RSD LP from a few years ago but I'd like to have the mono on CD as well. I'd appreciate it if more labels would release 60s stuff with the mono and stereo albums combined like that.

I'm pretty sure the RSD mono mix is the same as this one. I haven't been able to tell any real difference between that one and the 50th anniversary mono LP. The only thing I can hear on this set is the fact that this one was mastered specifically for CD.

The Doors - Waiting For The Sun

This is a promo CD that was sent to a few people in the industry in advance of the 40th Anniversary reissue of Waiting For The Sun. The entire album had been remixed and remastered for this project, with some bonus tracks tacked on as well. The packaging for this promo is exactly what you see in the picture, except I've put the disc in a MoFi CD sleeve. The simple cardboard insert is one-sided, and came in a plastic sleeve similar to what LP picture-discs sometimes are packaged in.

The sound is great here, if a little on the bright side compared to the original mixes. There are a lot of details present that are either buried or entirely absent on the original. That's a good thing to me. I like having the ability to compare the two. The bonus material is pretty decent, with the standout being a studio take of "Celebration Of The Lizard."
