Various - Justice Dub: Rare Dubs From Justice Records 1975 - 1977 LP (Jamaican Recordings) 2014

^It's been a long time since I had time to drop in and it's cold as hell so here's a little reggae to warm up mi rastas. I've always been a big fan of dub music and when this newer comp dropped I knew it had to land in my crates eventually. Contained on this plate are the dub and version sides of crooners like Johnny Clarke, Linval Thompson, The Mighty Diamonds and Horace Andy. Fairly basic dub no real exceptional standout high points but still worth it for the dub collectors.

Augustus Pablo - Born to Dub You LP (17 North Parade) 2014

^The melodica champ Aug Pab's latest comp compiling rare and unreleased dubs. Deep dub for the deep diggers including some 45 cuts we'll never hear on record any other way.

Megadeth - Youthanasia LP (Picture Disc) (Capitol Records) 2014 RE of 1994 OG

^This album was ok, not his best but still had some moments on it. Dave was pretty laid back in comparison to all of his prior albums but again, the good stuff makes this worth seeking. Scratch that, it makes the original worth seeking. This picture disc, while cool looking is so bright and sterile sounding, overly compressed and almost digital sounding. I wasn't too surprised, it's a picture disc, and a lot of them sound like ass, but still I had fingers crossed since the OG on vinyl goes for hundreds.

The Juan MacLean - Give Me Every Little Thing 2 x 12" (Astralwerks) 2005

^From metal to Techno, I'm all over the map today... I've always liked this guy, even his earlier stuff like this is pretty cool. Found this 2x12" for a buck and I couldn't pass it up. I like all the remixes on this, and they are different enough to listen to one after another without it sounding like the same song every time.

Urban Guerrillas - Attack Of The Pink Heat Seeking Moisture Missiles LP (Camouflage Records) 1985

This Minneapolis based post punk band from 1985 is HIGHLY HIGHLY slept on. That's 2 highlys because only people in my neck of the woods seem to know the name Urban Guerrillas. Their first album, Darwin's Theory Of Pelvic Revolution is a solid 9/10 in my post punk rock rating scale, this later one dips down into the 7s and 8s but it's still cool as hell. I think they were much more afraid of nukes in this release because it's more punk than the last and more doom and gloom.

Meat Puppets - Meat Puppets LP (SST Records) 1982

^Nice! I found this OG copy of this group of punk icons. This, their debut album is very powerful. They had a country punk thing going with emphasis on the punk. The lead singer was so raw and on point with this, he sounded like a drunken fool drooling all over the mic on half these songs. At 45 rpm this album goes by very fast. It's so mutilated sounding it won't go by fast enough for people who don't like punk. But fuck those guys, this ain't for them.

Meat Puppets - Mirage LP (SST Records) 1987

^Ok, is this even the same band?? Yeah, it is, but 5 years later they drop this non punk, almost alternative album. It's very 80s rockish, seemingly grown up but not in a bad way. In sharp contrast to their first album they play their instruments flawlessly with almost no distortion. There's even some laid back countryish songs, almost like Dylan or Tom Petty. It's confusing how this band can make such a radical digression in 5 years but they prove their diversity. Personally I don't like it as much but I have a feeling it will grow on me.

Count Five - Psychotic Reaction LP (Double Shot Records) 1966

^I got a few of their 45s, and I got their album titled song "Psychotic Reaction" on the seminal psych comp "Nuggets" and now I finally got their HTF in good shape at a good price classic debut. This really was their only album as they broke up a few years later. In a nutshell, this is psych blues rock if you can imagine such a thing. Strong elements of blues with the fuzz guitars of psych. Some of this is great, like the album titled, their covers are pretty corny, like their cover of "My Generation" and overall I could have left this one in the bin and it wouldn't have been that big of a loss. Some of it is too Beatlesy.

Tortoise - It's All Around You LP (Thrill Jockey) 2004

Probably one of the coolest covers I have on a record. This picture really doesn't do it justice. Here's what the front cover looks like. This is a rich post rock instrumental album for the most part, a "set it and forget it" listen.

Here's their title track, catch the laid back vibe and you'll get the gist.
